I can't help but wonder if Boucher, Emery, or Leighton will be back next year. These are not star goaltenders.

I think Leighton has proved he is an asset as a goalie. Just tell that to the Habs and reference their his shutouts against them. :lol:nana:

I think Biron had a better series against the Habs than Leighton did as Biron was far more tested. Look what happened to Biron less than a year following that Umburger series. Is he even signed to a team next year? Also, a few games against the Bruins and a breeze of a series against the Habs does not suddenly make a goalie the next Patrick Roy.

While Leighton could be on his way to making Brodeur seem like red light Racicot, I haven't see enough to grant him goalie of the century status.

Are you nuts?:slap

I might agree with you on Emery But Leighton?:lol

A shutout after missing about three months of play time, and a few more to follow in case you missed them.

Halak who?

The point is the Flyers have the greatest revolving door for goaltenders. For whatever reason, their goalies have this incredibly tendency not to repeat. I'm ready to bet that Leighton will not end the season as the number one goalie for the Flyers next year.

Gotta agree with that, no doubt the goalies played well, they have not been tested over time. If the finale comes down to goaltending, I think Philly may be somewhere Price ends up, that or Edmonton

Speculation of Price trades never seem to end in Montreal. Frankly, after three years of Price, I think I'm prepared to say that while I have seen some good potential, I haven't seen immence potential. I can't see anyone (other than a Milbury type GM) prepared to give Montreal a proven centre for him. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

Same here, and goalies always have hot spells.... look at Brian Boucher, had the NHL modern day record for shutouts at 5 consecutive games without letting a puck pass him, only to lose his starter status that same season. Goalies get hot all the time.. if your name is Brodeur or Leighton. Although one can look back at Kevin Weekes from his Carolina Hurricane days, he had a tremendous stretch run in the 02 playoffs, which resulted in two seasons as a starter. Doesn't matter, because Philadelphia as risingstar pointed out is much like Los Angeles and Nashville, constantly ever changing their No. 1. Word has it Cory Schneider may still be a candidate to go to Philly. Does it matter? You guys have had Cechmanek, Esche, Nittymakki, Biron, and a slew of others go through your doors. The guard changed three times over between Emery, Leighton, then Boucher, to Leighton again. Leighton is the flavour of the month. That flavour will sour soon.

I believe Price will be a superstar, I was at the games in the playoff series Hamilton played against the Moose, and he made our shooters look bad. That was the year Hamilton won the Calder Cup. He's only 22. Giving up on him now maybe premature but at the same time you don't need both him and Halak. Would be unfortunate if you guys found out years later you dealt the wrong goalie.

I really really hate to agree but unfortunately you are kinda right. It is hard to keep up on who is behind our main goaltender. Don't even know the guy behind Leighton. :lol

Not every star in the minors turns out to be a star in the majors. Anyway, I'm hoping other teams in the league share your belief in him. Montreal is a couple of players away from becoming a legitimate contender again next year. Montreal also has loads of talent in the farm system. Surely, some sort of package deal could be considered.

However, you're right. It would be a shame if we traded him and he became a star. Although I am beginning to wonder if Montreal is the place for him to flourish. I'd trade him for Phaneuf any day. Dang, why couldn't Montreal make that deal? Mind you, he would have perhaps fit the Philly and Bruins mindset even better.

No, really?! WOW! Then again, he's not just any goalie. Guy is 22. Oh well... love how people value a player at this point of his career.

S....i....l....l....y!

Yeesh, the sarcasm in this thread... lol. Clearly, some of you guys sing rhythm somewhere... lol. I shudder to think what your posts would be like if the Pens actually accomplished something this year.

If Montreal gets a chance to land a proven player for an unproven player, they should seriously consider it.

Penguin's success aside (despite recording another playoff campaign), Sidney Crosby its greatest star has accomplished a lot. He had what in my opinion was the best season of any player in the hockey world despite being weighted down by bottom six caliber linemates, and a Malkin who clearly was either gassed, disinterested, or a little from column a and a little from column b.

The Pens did however play two consecutive Stanley Cup Finals and are still on all technical counts, the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. Something that couldn't be said about the two teams in it right now including your precious Habs, with the exception of this year haven't been a team that has been more than an after thought since 1993. Ouch!

You wanna play that game, fine by me. But you won't like it. :)

As both the Habs and the Pens have been disqualified, all that matters is this:

P.S. I totally agree that Crosby is the NHL shining white knight at the moment. However, if we can learn anything about the defeat of the Pens and the Caps at the hands of the lowly Habs is that it takes more than one star player to win games.

I have no idea what was up with Malkin this year. Had he been on top of his game, it may have allowed the Pens to win one more game, which would have been enough.

Show off! But unfortunately we live in a world of what have you done for me now, not 17 years ago. Pens > Habs

And I concur... it's because Malkin is Russian. Lazy Ruskies. Jordan Staal was heaps better in these playoffs than Malkin. If Makin has a repeat performance of this kind of season next year, one has to ask themselves, how long before you pull the trigger and cart off his ass?

We were here last year, go check for the thread

This gets so old, and is essentially the only things Habs fans have to hold on to for their falling hockey dynasty

How many did they win post expansion to 22 teams?

And on to the Pens, Malkin did have a sub par playoff in round two, but Fleury was the reason they lost. I still cant belive Pyatts goal went in. Im not so qucik to think they need any changes, accept better goaltending and PP coaching. If Gonch walks they will have to shuffle a bit, but I like their role players alot, and any team with Crosby/Malkin has a shot at winning (again)
