Decent weather a little south of you has brought the bros you often speak of out to Old Orchard Beach.

For some reason I started talking to these two guys wearing Habs gear who told me back on Saturday that the Habs had this no problem.

The guy in the Subban shirt spouted that "Les Canadiens sont la prochaine dynastie dans le LNH!":rotfl

Granted he was drunk, but the things that run through Habs fans' minds amaze me.

They really are delusional, and its not one or two, its like 90% who just cant figure out that this team isnt going anywhere fast

After the bashing Plekanec took the past few days, you think this guy is going to want to stay for a home town discount anymore?? Whos going to be the number 2 center???

Habs fans are simply passionate about the sport.
There isn't a city on the planet that comes near its love for the sport.

I heard it's golfing season up there. :pfft::lol

It's also open-speculation season! I wonder who the Habs will bring on board to replace all those players looking to leave. I'm not sure why but I get a sense that Bertuzzi is on his way here. While not the greatest player, he does have some size and might be of some help in front of the net. He could be good for 50 points.

While probably not a popular choice, I would have liked to have landed that trade for Phaneuf. The Habs need real meaness on the blueline.

No doubt, but at some point, you have to looko at the team realistically.

Tbert would be a good addition but not one that would put them in the top tier especially if you take away Plekanec's 75 points.

I agree Pheneuf would have been a good piece to add, the Sutters have ____ed that team for years

We hear so much about how unfaithful and impatient Habs fans are, yet they'll sell out the bell centre every night even if they're a below .500 team. Other than the Maple Locos, I doubt there's a team in the league who have as avid fans who would stand by their team as much.

Sure, Habs fans complain and tend to see things through rose colored glasses from time to time, but I don't really see it as being naive or uninformed, they're just truly passionate. They really really want to win.

I have great memories of the cup winning Habs. There was a great buzz in the city as a result of all that winning. I miss it too. I'd love to be able to share those kinds of memories with my babies when they're old enough. My son is now 7 months old and my daughter is 2.5. Boy, does she love her Habs jersey... She also loves her Superman crest shirt too... lol.

That's pretty true. During the dark years for the Bruins there were many fans "wearing" gold. Once the team rebounded all the "life-long" fans reemerged.

The Bell Centre is a fun place to go to a game. I've been razzed for being a Bruins fan, but nothing bordering on a physical altercation. I can't say the same for Yankee Stadium (New or old) probably because people in the Bronx are just plain crazy.:panic:

I can admit this... My favorite Bruins player was Cam Neely. He is the definitive power forward. He changed the way his position is played. He had it all. There wasn't a team in the league who wasn't envious of the Bruins at the time. He wasn't afraid of anyone and pretty much plowed through the opposition. What a complete package player. Damn that Samuellson.

Sadly, I have no memories of Orr.

Growing up Ray Bourque was my absolute favorite. Even these days I'm still a bit of a Bubba fanboy. Neely wasn't definietly my number 2.

I still have bad memories of the 1991 WCF, when Ulf took him out. When the Bruins went up 2-0 I was so sure they were going to the finals. The North Stars were going to be easy. Stupid Penguins.:crying

I'm too young to have seen Orr play unfortunately, but have seen plenty of video over the years. I can't imagine seeing a player of that caliber play over the course of a whole season. Just amazing stuff.

Keith,

sorry to say, but looking at this series I don't see how the Flyers can win. They got some of the best possible matchups all the way through the east.

As a low seed they got the Devils who they owned all year. They got a B's team who wasn't all that good and fought back from 3-0 in an unreal series and then they got the Habs who had overachieved themselves and were not ready for the hits Philly would lay out.

I just don't see how they beat the Haws.

I'd be more inclined to say that the Pens and the Caps faced a team who's playing style really challenged them. Those were good match-ups for the Habs. The Flyers are more of a bump and grind type team. However, the Flyers also have talent up front, which may have been too much for the Habs at that stage of the playoffs. By the time the Habs finished off the president's trophy winners and last year's stanley cup champions, they may not have had much left in the tank. They certainly didn't seem like the same team against the Flyers, other than game 3.

Had the Habs met the devils in the first round, I have a hard time believing that the habs could have beaten them. Match-ups and luck goes a long way. Ultimately, I don't think the habs overachieved here. I think that unfairly minimizes their tremendous accomplishment. It wasn't an accident.

However, I do agree that the Flyers are major underdogs here, though as the saying goes, anything can happen in the playoffs. I'd never assume anything because you just never know............

So they underachieved by barely finishing 8th? Or getting one mesely point against non playoff teams down the stretch?

Habs got lucky thats it, they played the trap had an incredible goalie ( I dont see how constantly giving up 40 plus shots is a style of hockey), they also capitalized on there chances (Camalleri buried every good chance he got) and were the beneficiares of bad goaltending by the other teams.

Hawks in 5 sorry Flyers fans :(

and according to the radio Plekanec will be gone, another dumb move by the Habs, who is going to be the second line center?

The Habs were 8-6 through the first two rounds. That pretty much matches their overall season record. If you count the Flyers series, they were 9-10, which again, is an indication of how they played at some points during the season too.

The reality is the habs beat the Pens and the Caps. If it makes people feel better to believe that the habs called in a voodoo doctor in order to win, that's okay too. Who cares? The truth is they played well enough to win. The Pens and the Caps, as highly touted as they are, are the losers here. They simply could not beat the "lowly, super lucky, talentless, tiny, gutless, non-aggressive" Habs.... lol. In my book, that says far more about the losers than about the winners.

As for Plekanec, some team out there is going to offer him 6 million and he'll jump at it like Komisarek did. I wish him well. He wasn't at all part of the core playoff team that got them this far anyway. If he wants to go, the Habs will find a way to live without him.

So Plekanec's defensive efforts and PK skills had nothing to do with them advancing?

If Montrealers were not so quick to blame this guy who essentially got them into the playoffs, he might have stayed for 5 million.
Komisarek left cuz Burke promised him a spot on team USA.

Plekanec will likely turn into that player who will never be able to live up to the huge contract he signs. He is not a pressure player. He's generally that player who will get 3 points in a 6-4 loss. Come crunch time, he is nowhere to be found. I could deal with not getting points at times, however, at least show some effort when we need it the most. When this guy gives up or feels intimidated by the opposition, he becomes useless.

While I appreciate the points he got during the season, I'm not as quick to use that to justify or excuse not showing up during the playoffs. A team's success depends heavily on consistency. Had he played against the Flyers the way he played during the season, it might have been enough to beat them. The habs suddenly became a two punch player team (Gionta and Cammy) and it just wasn't enough. Not against the Flyers anyway.

I don't think Habs fans are blaming him for losing against the Flyers. It's just that they know what he is capable of. It was a shame not to see it. It raises doubts. It's normal in sports to feel that way. Ask Joe Thornton.

I said before that if the Flyers lose, so be it. I will cheer them on the whole way through it. After all they have battled back from this season I'm proud of the way they have played. However, what they did gives me every reason to believe they have a chance. This team simply will not quit. So as long as they play hard, I'm ok with a series loss. Go Flyers!!!

So basically stay away from Joe Thornton at all costs. :rotfl

How can such a dominating superstar be such a no show when it counts, and with his contract, can you say whoever has him is.... STUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDD! :nana:
