I thought it was the NHL as a whole thread. Hardly any mention of individual performances from other great talent in the league....

So you come in to complain that people are talking about Crosby by... talking about Crosby?

I'm not a Penguins fan, and I'm not a huge fan of how Crosby plays certain aspects of the game. But the guy is on another level than any other player in the league.

He's pushed in everybody's face because he is marketable, something the NHL desperately needs. Ovechkin is an amazing player, but there's a reason he isn't in as much advertising - appearance and speech.

I complain about Crosby because he is forced in everyone's face. And it all began when Bettman started his knob schlobing of if him.

His play is on fire right now and I will give him that credit but the NHL does not seem to promote anyone other than him. How about the amazing career of Lindstrom, or Stamkos who at 20 is doing an amazing job. Tim Thomas's play at Goal has been rock solid as well as Pavelec and Quick.

My gripe is that all of the other leagues have multiple players who are used to promote the sport but the NHL seems to only push Crosby.

This talk that he is better than Gretzky is even laughable as the game is a joke compared to when the Great One played. And it's a lot softer too.

Hockey will always be my sport but with Bettman at the helm, i am disgusted at what he has done to it.

I think a large number of hockey fans feel the same way. I like the NHL because to me, there's not much else. I could never get into minor league or college hockey.

Whether you agree with the comparison or not, it's way too early to start the Gretzky comparisons. If he keeps this level of play up, sure, he could be at least one of the best ever.

The style of play and rules have changed a lot, but in the defense of Crosby's stats, goaltending is MUCH better now than it was for almost all of Gretzky's career.

Did anyone else watch the Pens/Caps 24/7? It's about time that the NHL gets this kind of coverage. Interesting to see the behind the scenes stuff.

I think Bruce Boudreau surpassed Rex Ryan's F-bomb count from the entire Hard Knocks series in one 2nd period intermission speech.

Funny, I swear the game has gotten rougher. Guys are much bigger. There are more hits, and concussions are at an all-time high. The game is more physical today than it was in the 80's. But hey, I guess some of us don't have our blinders on. Also, the goaltending has changed drastically since No. 99's days. Guys have goalie coaches now which never was a common thing. It was a luxury. Goalies are much larger, their equipment is bigger, which means they have more net coverage. They are more technical sound in net. No flopping around. Last goalie to do that on a regular basis, and granted he was good, more-so because of how fast his legs were, Dominik Hasek.

Just heard that Pronger is undergoing surgery on his foot following an injury in the Montreal game.

As much as I may despise the Flyers, Pronger has been in my top three favorite defensemen in the league for over ten years. I'd love to have this guy on my team. Get well soon, Chris!

unfortunately i can't watch the 24/7 stuff cuz it's on HBO. i don't get why the NHL complains about having a small fanbase but everything NHL related is on channels that not everbody gets.
