Oh yes Deeznutz, because one bad game equals an entire season. Deja vu much? We'll just forget the majority of the games where Marc-Andre Fleury was by far and large the team's best player. Like he was in Game 1. *shakes head*
EVERYONE has a bad game every once and a while. The problem is with no Crosby and Malkin (two former Art Ross scoring Champs) and half of your team's offensive presence taken out of the lineup, our chances of going deep with this team look bleak. Your team needs to score on even strength and special teams more than ever, and we just don't have a capable team in that regard. We play a tight defensive game, by keeping on everyone and suffocate their top talent by giving them no room to be creative. And that's all good, but that can only get you so far with a weak supportive forward cast. When our D is exposed, we're dead in the water. Our supposed No. 1 line has zero chemistry (the line of Neal-Letestu-Kovalev)... As good as Lets is he just isn't 1st line material and this experiment has been a failure since Day 1. Despite saying that, their line has remained together unfortunately by "forced" situation. This defeat does not surprise me. Prior to tonight's game, the fact that we can even say the Pens went 9-2-0 in their past 11 games including their Game 1 3-0 victory, does. The bubble was bound to burst at some point. I'm just surprised it took this long. I am quite relieved and happy, because it shows what this team can do without No. 87 and 71 in the lineup. We never got to see the team truly tested in that regard, and they have flourished. It's actually quite exhilarating.
Now I am not saying this spells the end for the Pens, but no way they make it deep with this current roster. They'll be very fortunate to make it out of this round. If they do I can say kudos to the Pens for being 1 point out of tops in the East for points, and that isn't bad considering their two big superstars were out for half a season each, and the fact they are even competitive in this series, a series that boasts the likes of Stamkos, St. Louis, Lecavalier, Gagne, and Malone. You can thank coaching (not just Blysma, but thank special teams coach Granato), a great disciplined defensive system, pick ups of Michalek and Martin (thanks Shero!) and the great goaltending, and who's their starter? FLEURY! Thank you! Here's coach Eli, signing off.
Edited for corrections. Damn, it's hard typing when you got only 4 hours of sleep last night. Which reminds me, pillow meet Eli's head. zZZZzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz
