Re: Nintendo 3DS

Forreal! Especially now with the pics u posted up above can't wait for more hands on coverage! Yea I'm really not sure what I'd wanna pick up at launch. Just like u, I'm thinking only ssf4, but I barely play the console version anymore. So I dunno, anything else noteworthy? (haven't been keeping up :()

It's strange that Nintendo of America still hasn't announced an official list of launch day titles for the US when Nintendo of Europe and Japan have confirmed their launch games weeks ago.

Here's the list of games for Europe's launch (March 25th). It could reflect what will be available for the US launch, but take it with a grain of salt:

* Pilotwings Resort (Nintendo)
* nintendogs + cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends (Nintendo)
* nintendogs + cats: French Bulldog & New Friends (Nintendo)
* nintendogs + cats: Toy Poodle & New Friends (Nintendo)
* Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (Capcom)
* The Sims 3 (Electronic Arts)
* PES 2011 3D – Pro Evolution Soccer (Konami Digital Entertainment)
* LEGO Star Wars III The Clone Wars (LucasArts)
* RIDGE RACER 3D (Namco Bandai)
* Super Monkey Ball 3D (SEGA)
* SAMURAI WARRIORS: Chronicles (TECMO KOEI)
* Asphalt 3D (Ubisoft)
* Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (Ubisoft)
* Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D (Ubisoft)
* Rayman 3D (Ubisoft)

I decided I want one, but the launch games (or lack of) are really keeping me from pre-ordering on Amazon. I'd hate to buy a 3DS and not have anything cool to play. I'm not the biggest Street Fighter fan anymore so I can't see that being the only game to play right away.

I'm afraid of this too. Looking at the European list, there aren't many games that I deem must-buy. Most of the big games (like Zelda, Kid Icarus, Star Fox) won't be out until May-June. I don't like the idea of not having a game to play for months until then.

I'm not saying that the launch games are terrible, some are pretty cool, but nothing I'd need to buy except for Street Fighter maybe.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I think I'll wait a few months for Zelda, unless the 3D effect is so impressive that I have to buy a 3DS on day 1. Still, it's not as bad as the N64's launch with only two games. :lol

But the N64's launch had Mario 64! :lol

Re: Nintendo 3DS

:D Thanks for the list plasmid! But agreed that it is underwhelming if the US launch titles are the same. :(

It might be like the wii again where it's satisfying to have the system but we have a to wait a bit for the big name games to come out.

And please don't start on the N64 :lol :(

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I am really leaning towards the blue one... I'm just trying to decide where to preorder it from. Plus I can't wait for Resident Evil on this!

The Wii launch had Zelda though.

Well on the bright side the 3DS does come with a few games pre-installed that use the 3D cameras.

I was hoping that retailers and stores would've announced pre-order bonuses for the 3DS, but so far there's nada as far as I can tell. Have mine ordered in Amazon, nonetheless.

Nintendo is also quick to point out that Zelda, Mario Kart, Resident Evil and Kid Icarus are due in Spring-Summer 2011.

Not an amazing list, but very broad and diverse. Most genres are represented here.

I'll be picking up Pilot Wings, SSFIV and possibly Steel Diver at launch.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I think I'll wait to pick up a 3DS, the only game on there Imo worth picking up is SSFIV

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Pretty sure Resident Evil and at least one big Nintendo title (Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, Star Fox or Zelda) will hit before summer. I've been hearing that Nintendo isn't expecting to meet demand for the systems. If you have pre-orders, you should at least wait until last minute if you plan on canceling, just in case you change your mind because there's a definite possibility of short supply just like with the Wii.

from what I was told they wil be in short supply, so if you do want one it is best to preorder if you want one. Cause otherwise its gonna be hard to get one outright.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Of course people say it will be in short supply. That's how they sell them. They tell you it will be in short supply to panic people into buying them quick.

It's business.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Well, yes, but that doesn't change the possibility that there will be shortages just as there was for the Wii.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Early reviews of some launch games by Famitsu (Japanese gaming publication):

Quotes from the famitsu reviews (like the ones before, but more detailed) posted by 1up:

- Super Street Fighter IV (9/8/8/9, 34 points): "The way you can use the touch screen to launch even charge moves in an instant is actually kind of revolutionary for the series, a change that I think could lead to some neat new tactics. Despite that, the controls can still be very difficult at times, even with the ability to redefine buttons. Whether you're able to overlook that will define your overall the opinion of the game."

- Dynasty Warriors 3DS (9/9/8/8, 34 points): "Nothing has changed much in the DW formula, but switching between characters while shouting out orders to your side gives this game a new sort of real-time strategy feel. Going 3D makes it easier to gauge positioning between yourself and enemies, which makes the game easier overall."

- Nintendogs + Cats (10/9/9/10, 38 points): "The sheer fuzziness factor on all the pets is too cute. Watching them totter around in 3D is so calming, and the act of petting them has much more of a you-are-there feel to it. Keeping a dog and cat together gives you a huge number of must-see moments, and the ability to interact quickly and easily with other pet owners is great...The play style hasn't changed much from the old game, but Nintendogs + Cats still has plenty of new surprises," one of them wrote in this week's new issue. "The 'cute' level of the puppies and kittens has really shot up from the first one, and just watching their expressions and mannerisms is a great stress relief."

- Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (8/8/8/8, 32 points): "The simple interface and screen setup is similar to the rest of the series and put together very well. The animated parts are in 3D and there are a variety of new features and game gimmicks, but the play style hasn't changed much. It's a natural progression for the series, 3D support included."

- Super Monkey Ball 3DS (9/8/8/7, 32 points): "Having three different games to enjoy is great, although the Monkey Fight and Race bits are rehashes of other titles and not all that exciting. The core Monkey Ball game, though, uses 3D in a variety of gimmicks and traps to make the whole experience a lot more impactful and exciting. It's simple to learn and highly addictive."

- Ridge Racer 3D (8/8/7/9, 32 points): "The courses are full of floaty jumps and other gimmicks to get you inside the game more. Racing across them is pretty fun, and the drifting (which tends to throw off beginners in other games) is simple to pull off. The rival cars you race in Grand Prix mode and so on are pretty tough, though, and I wonder if the game's still too hard overall. A difficulty selection would have been nice...Ridge Racer 3D brings you back to the Ridge of a simpler time -- which sounds like a slam, but it's true. From the competition to the drifting, it encapsulates what makes racing games fun really well."

Re: Nintendo 3DS

First unboxing videos of the final retail product and a couple of games (in Japan, at least). The guys in the vid speak in Chinese, but I think it's pretty easy to understand what's happening. it's in 720p also:

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I'm feeling alone here, guys. The hype train hasn't arrived at SSF, I guess.

The Nintendo 3DS is officially released in Japan.

Lines in front of stores all over Tokyo all morning waiting for doors to open.
