Easy, people were more fit and the cost of care was way down. They also didn't have the technology to "prolong" life. IMO the reason insurance is so expensive is because so much money is spent on trying to keep the elderly alive. Sure everyone wants grandma to live forever. However those treatments are expensive. This is a huge issue that no one ever talks about for obvious reasons. It's certainly a taboo subject.

plus there was no obesity epidemic, food was probably more pure too, no so much chemicals and hormones, we really are F__ed up today

I was going to say the same. No one ever asks why are we so sick that we require so much health care.

The other hypocrisy at work here is that many ppl (not all) are ok with the government having sweeping powers regarding the most personal aspects of your life (just not soda).

For example:

-Govt having the power to tell you what substances you can and can't put in your body: that's ok.

-Govt having the power over end of life decisions: that's ok.

-Govt telling consenting adults who they can and can't marry: that's ok.

-Govt locking someone away without a trial or access to an attorney: that's ok.

-Govt having power over reproductive choices: that's ok.

-Govt having the power to LEGALLY EXECUTE YOU: that's ok. (I would think this would be the trump card in the deck. Some ppl are ok with govt having the power to KILL- TO TAKE THE LIFE OF ONE OF ITS CITIZENS).

-Govt bans big gulps: TYRANNY!!

I have yet to hear a reasoned, logical case why it's ok for the govt to control (or at least have a major influence) over the most private and fundamental aspects of your personal autonomy, but ppl scream when they want to ban large sodas or happy meals or whatever the newest "outrage" is.

If ppl were really all that concerned over govt overreach or control they'd be fighting against the things I mention above. But they don't. In fact, I find that the ppl who claim govt tyranny the most, are the most likely to support govt control over those personal freedoms I mention.

That's incorrect. Most of the things you mention are laws voted in by citizens. As for "death," it's the defendant's choice whether he wants a judge or jury for his trial and they determine based on the crimes committed. Congrats, you're a potato.

I really think it has to do with the food, the process, the chemicals too, almost nothing is pure anymore, not even fruits,
the pollution in the air probably is doing a number on us too
seems if you think about it, is like a number of things all together working against us, and the health care system just cashing in

Bloomberg's a wacky guy and New York's a great city. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think it's far too early to judge. I remember when they banned smoking in restaurants in New York. Everyone said it was fascism and how they can say bye bye to freedoms. Now society is a much better place for the ban and people who want to smoke can still smoke, just not in the food court anymore. No one is talking about what people do in their private lives, only how businesses are run in the public square.

I live in New York and Bloomberg is an elitist snob who believes he knows what is best for other people and imposes his views on the people.

Let us decide. Long live Ron Paul. He may be a crazy but he champions individual rights.

Untrue. Your companies cost is partially based on number of claims. So lots of claims means price goes up and then my cost goes up too. That may be true if you pay for your own insurance but even then you are still paying part of the unhealthy persons part.

So if you believe that, then people getting in car accidents also affects your car insurance. So you're paying for drunk drivers and teenage boys with lead feet.

I dont know thats its the food was more pure, then people cooked. People rarely ate out let alone ate fast food. Now today it more the exact opposite, people rarely cook (especially from scratch).

Explain when I dont get tickets or accidents, my insurance doesn't go up, and actually goes down a little. My health insurance has gone up EVERY year, and even had lesser coverage.

This is entirely different. Cigarette second hand smoke has been proven to be a danger to people around it. Are you telling me there is a second hand 20 ouncer at play? :slap:lol

Citizens do not "vote in" laws. We elect ppl to make the laws for us. They're called representatives. You find them in a state assembly, city counsel, or Congress. A refresher in Civics may be to your benefit.

Your words onthe death penalty dont address my point. It doesnt matter if the def chooses a jury or bench trial. How he gets the death penalty is irrelevant. The point is the govt HAS the power to execute.

Next time do a little bit more critical analysis of the subject and what was written before you mouth off. Address the argument before name call. And i dont think you want to get into that fight either because your post count speaks volumes about your life.

And your posts speak to your ignorance. You know as much about how the death penalty is handed down as you do about Social Security. Yes, the government carries out the execution, but it's the jury, your peers, that have the power to execute. They're the ones that deliver the death sentence, not the government. But hey, if you were as bright as you pretend to be, you'd already know this. :wink1:

Because it cost $3000 to have a EMG test that takes about 20 minutes, that's why. Because it cost $2500 for a CAT Scan.

In other words......medical costs have gone through the roof and we're all paying for it.

Your car insurance should go down since the value of your car goes down every year. What's bad is, IF you do have to make a claim, they either raise it or drop you.

Oh......as for health care being lower in the 60s...for one thing, everything was cheaper. Also, there was less pervenative care back then and also less procedures that could save your life. How many people died back then of things that could've been cured today?

Another factor is.....less people on welfare and getting free health care that drives the costs up for the rest of us.

Hey, Moonie.........pass that big gulp, man!
