That is something a lot of people overlook. A mass produced item will never look like a one off custom.

Perhaps SSC should contract Mikey to provide the prototype and master paint apps for the head sculpts from now on. (I'm serious!)

Mikey, this is not smoke-blowing and I am being completely serious but if someone from SSC sees the job you did with this Han sculpt and doesn't think you're a good candidate to provide master paint apps for future figures then they are insane, blind or both.

Why just new bodies for Star Wars? SS has other collectors that dont buy SW.

Exposed joints never bothered me, within reason. THe old Medicom bodies were ugly as sin, but had awesome articulation. I actually like the nude Sideshow female quite a bit. Leia is a CY Girl.
Some people want NO exposed joints though, which I understand, but it's just not realistic to expect all the articulation without joints.
The wire armatures just don't work very well.

Great suggestion, but there's one problem with that- Image the uproar that would be caused when we see Mikey's amazing proto-paint, expect Mikey's amazing proto-paint, and we all end up with a factory job. The uproar would be deafening! Therefore, I suggest SS make Mikey the only factory painter, and paint every single figure himself. This way we're guaranteed a great paint job. I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

That's true. But doesn't the factory use the prototype as a master from which to base the final paint apps from?

If so, I'd rather them shoot for something that's a 10 than something that's a 6 or 7, like the Han prototype was.

Also, I would think Mikey is smart and talented enough to be keen not to produce a master paint app that the factory could never in a million years come close to matching.

I know I've posted this link before, but I have a lot of love for this guys work. He started me on the path. My techniques have changed a lot since then, but I wouldn't still be doing this if not for Tony DiTerlizzi.

EXACTLY! I have seen behind-the-scene pictures of McFarlane Toy's paint factory and the painters refer to a photograph of the prototype to help them paint.

These guys were stuck looking at the prototype Han. And they actually did a remarkable job replicating it. Now imagine if they had Mikey's version to compare to. They might have at least got the hair color right!

Mikey, great job man. Seeing your work inspires me to start learning how to paint. Maybe 10 years from now, I can be as good as you!
