Thanks, Customikey, for sharing your re-paint pics with us. You brought Han to life.

I wasn't aware of this customizing world until recently. I'm always amazed at your work as well as others who share their custom pics.

Again, thanks for sharing.

Here's a screen capture for comparison.

Do you think I need to lighten his jacket more? I did quite a bit, but I could proably go even further. No one mentioned the jacket, so I guess it's not very obvious anything was done.

Don't do anymore to the jacket. I think it looks perfect!

That's up to you Mikey, it looks slate blue in some ESB screen shots (flourescent lighting there?) and darker, more navy blue in others...

As far as the chin and nose, the Falls sculpt proves this is the best sixth scale Han Solo HS ever made (yet) IMO. :D

What method did you use to lighten the jacket? The shape and position of the pockets bothers me much more than the color.

I didn't even notice. How did you lighten it?

Knowing Mikey, he probably used Acrylic chalk. That's a calling card of his, and a very useful one at that. I still can't find ANY of the stuff here in my town. my hobby shops suck. That chalk looks like it works like magic! :monkey2

DA knows my tricks...:lol
Yep, I ground up some dark and light gray acrylic chalk and pounded it in with a fat paintbrush (now thoroughly ruined). THe cool thing about using the chalk on costumes is that it won't set until you spray on some acrylic sealer (the same used for the head repaints). Before the sealer goes on, if you make a mistake, it just washes right out!

I am fond of using the chalk, but I'm still experimenting with different ways to use it. It's been handy in smoothing the lines out in skintones (Luke), weathering costumes (Hellboy's coat was the first beneficiary, and it worked out wonderfully, ditto DW Freddy), and for shading hair (Han being a prime example). I also used it to give Pamela Voorhees a little blush and for Sith Anakin's eye darkness.

DA, I'm sorry you're having trouble finding some. Allow me to help. Here's what I use. Go to the pastels section. Definitely get the set of 48. Stay away from oils.

Amazing work as always Mikey, you actually made me exclaim "Whoa!" out loud.

I've finally returned home to claim my Han Solo and I have to admit I am in love with this figure! For whatever reason (as mentioned earlier) photos just don't do this sculpt justice... it is dead-on Han Solo to me. I feel bad for the people who canceled based on the proto pics... in hand he just looks amazing. I do wish the jacket was a bit longer and there is an uneven hairline, but overall he's the figure I'm most pleased with!

Great work Sideshow!!!

Man...Maaaaaaan! Now I don't even want mine when it comes if it won't look THAT good! Crap, I wish I could paint. BTW, Is that SS body?

Glad you dug him as much as me gb!

I will eventually have him repainted when some of our talented painters can take orders again...

Here's a quick little pic I got taken tonight as I'm trying to figure out what to do with all these 12" figures that are coming at an alarming rate. Trying a Detolf for now.

Wow, just goes to show that the SS body just needs some fussin and messin, and it looks great. The head repaints good* too.

*(good meaning, did you shrink Ford and cutoff his head? AMAZING!)

I wouldnt call it wonderful at all. Look how awkward he looks in this pic. very representative of SS's bodies.

Actually, I've noted that a lot of people aren't very good at posing their figures. I've never had a problem getting cool, realistic poses out of my sideshow figures, and I think I'm safe in saying I have very high standards when it comes to realism and quality.

I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement in the body. There is. There will always be. But the bodies are not crap just because someone poses them badly. I'm very fond of the basic Sideshow body. I've had no problems with it in terms of proportion or articulation. Note, I said the STANDARD body. Are the short body's arms too long? Yep. I decided to fix that (as opposed to being FORCED to, a phrase I loath). But the design for the standard is top-notch, I think.

And I like the pic with the mynock. I'm trying to figure out how to get my mynock into the display without damaging the wood of my shelving units. Darth Loki is trying to pose his Han without the stand, which limits his choices in posing. That would be true for any figure, not just Sideshow.

By the way, you can find an excellent example of dynamic posing in DarkArtist's personal thread in the customs gallery. The last page features his marvelous Evil Ash repaint.
There's also plenty of Sideshow badassness in my own thread, linked in the sig.
Of course, this site is full of pics of Sideshow figures posed well and looking awesome and realistic.

I think the body moves and poses well, although sometimes they can be loose. I think the main improvement needed is aesthetics, one of the reasons I believe the Kurgan didn't sell well which contributes to our lack of a medieval kurgan!!
