Well, due to some unfortunate delays, misunderstandings and events outside everybody's hands, the Bespin Han Solo I had cancelled arrived last night at my doorstep.
No biggie, I thought to myself, I didn't want the figure, the charge on my CC sucks, but what the hell, I can sell it off.
So I decided to take it out and have the firsthand experience.
First thought?
Yes, it does look better in hand than on any pic out there. in person Hans face does not look that pudgy.
Second thought?
If I had seen it in person beforehand, I still would have cancelled the order.
Yes, it is a nice figure, and it's a great change from all the sissy robed Jedis, but it just suffers from design flaws.
Why is the jacket so short? And not only the general length, but also the sleeves, there's barely any fabric to adjust fro movement.
Why is the material so thin it's actually translucent?
The boots have a poor sculpt, but I think that has to do with the choice of material. Why are the boots so hard? People at SST, please consider a softer material for the boots. Just look at DML's boots: soft enough to allow flexibility and posing, yet sufficiently strong to keep the figure balanced. Also, making them softer allows you to make them fit tighter around the figures ankles and calves (sp?).
Another thing that struck me: why the high-riding pants? They make the figure's torso look shorter, and when you look at picture's of Solo in ESB, his pants were kinda low-riders, the exact opposite. Just look at the picture in the back.
In general, Solo's outfit just makes the flaws in SST's body more apparent.
There's just a bunch of little things that are off which are mildly irritating.
So, overall, yeah, a nice figure, not sure if it's one I'll keep though.
