Official 12" Bespin Han Solo Image Thread

Is there any confirmation from SSC that these new pics are indeed the production Bespin Han and not more prototype?
I guess previous official shots have the 'prototype only' disclaimer in the corner.

Capt. Solo looks damn fine, even if he's not perfect-- he's light years better than anything I had before.

I still don't like the boots though. I'll swap them out for WWII German officers Stiffel. I did that with Jedi Luke and it's a marked improvement.

Looks pretty close to me. Some people are just hard to reproduce in a sculpt. I don't imagine Hasbro came anywhere close to what Sideshow has done here. Maybe if Sideshow does another Han, a different sculptor can tackle it and do a better job. I am satisifed with the pictures I have seen and look forward to it's arrival.

So how did Gentle Giant get such an uncanny Harrison Ford likeness for their Han Solo mini-bust? I know they usually scan actors instead of sculpt them but I'm pretty sure they didn't have the technology to do that in 1977....

Luke first sported his "Bespin fatigues" on Dagobah.

And West End Games' Rebel Alliance Sourcebook referred to the Bespin fatigues as "X-wing pilot ground uniform" - which I prefer.

That's pretty much how I feel about this figure, too. Overall, I am happy with it and I think it easily looks more like Ford than any previous 1/6 Han figure. Heck, it's even a better likeness than the PF, imho.

However, I DO see the problems with the jacket... especially the collar... in comparison to what's in the movie.

I'll reserve final judgement on the sculpt until I see the figure "on person". I think it looks pretty good actually...

As for the jacket....check out that 360 on SS site (as others have recommended) and you'll notice that the cut of the jacket accomedates a "flap" idea on the jacket front (but no visible buttons or fastners ala the movie version which doesn't either)...the right side has more space from the chest pocket to the edge than the left does, so the collar is actually "ok" from an accuracy POV.
What is "off" is the tailoring...it's too fitted...especially around the sleeves (good thing the figure's hands are removable...from the looks of it you'd never get the jacket off otherwise)...the tight tailoring gives the jacket a "bolero" look instead of the "flight jacket" look it should really have.

I dug out the old Hasbro release from the 12" KB exclusive 3 pack from several years back and the jacket is actually better looking than this one...it's dark grey and tailored a little looser, with the collar looking even all around.( However, it still features the same heavy stitching the SS one does, giving the outfit a "doll-like" scale-distracting appearance)

Granted, I'm basing this assessment on the pics on the SS sight....and who am I kidding...once we have he figure in hand and get to "futz" with it, it'll probably be as wonderful to display as the rest of 'em....

Why are SSC Prod pics so awful? I just don't get it, is it the lighting they use? I don't know but they all seem so washed out and mispresentative of the piece. Remember the Luke prod pics?.. he looked like a pale faced doll and the actual piece was nothing like it, thank God.

Maybe they should hire Dave Myatt or someone who can get it right, really need some improvement in that Dept.

The Han 360 should be the closest to what we should expect IMO.

You're right, that is the proto 360, but I'm basing my comments on the prod pics vs the 360 and overall look, paint apps, etc... because the prod pics are so far off from what the actual piece looks like in hand.

NOD NOD! I agree with that. It seems especially since the update on Anakin's production photos they have a different photog. and he/she is just not very good.

Edit... Well at least I didn't like the Anakin shots. I shouldn't say they are not very good.

I can't even believe someone @ SSC actually authorized approval for some of these to be the prod piece pics of record on their site.... oh my goodness...

ps Why are we still talking about Han's jacket? I thought we got past that based on the 360 and all the TF and SDCC pics...

Yea, a lot of the pics are pretty bad.

Actually, now that you mention it, Han's hands look great, it looks like they were specially sculpted and that says a lot about the attention to detail in this piece, the belt, blaster, etc. That is why I keep saying the OVERALL piece seems pretty great IMO,

Again, check out the 360 to get a truer feel for it.

I got to admit. I almost checken littled on Han and cancelled my order. If he looks anything like what we see in DA's avatar I will be happy with him.

Plus, the more I think about it the more I believe he really would look cooler posed with the gas mask on.

Any gun-drawn masked pose WITH that crazy Mynock hanging above/near him would be the shizzle IMO, this prod shot pose was fairly insane...

Another thing...I must correct myself....just watched portions of ESB...and regretfully, the SS jacket is WRONG. Wrong collar, wrong tailoring, wrong color, wrong pockets. Oh well. I'm sure it'll still be a good looking figure...
