It'd be cool if Hot Toys revisited this sometime. I'd love to see how it'd come out now. Too bad that'll never happen . . .

That's awesome thanks. Very nice mod. How did you tackle getting the suit off?

Now that looks pretty good. To bad he didn't look this way out of the box.

Thanks! I'll try to get some better pics this weekend.

Thanks :)

to get the suit off, I undid the belt at the back where it connects, then pulled the shorts down where there is a seam that connects the top and lower halves of the suit. from there just started to undo the thread starting from the back making my way to the front, BUT I left a most of the front half of the suit together.

After that just folded the body in half so to speak and slowly pulled the suit off. it was a lot harder getting the suit back on than taking it off actually :lol

Gotcha. I went with cutting the back from the belt almost to the collar. Ended up gluing the seam together again. Not great but the cape covers it well. I don't plan on ever selling so that's how I justified it.

ive got a version 2 body and full outfit loose ,with a version 1 head and neck if anyones interested , shoot me a pm cheers chris

Watched this movie again and thought how awesome it would be if HT did a 2.0 version or re-release with updated body, head, and paint apps.

How much I wished it could happen. Despite the movie was slow in pace and lacking action, it was still a good movie that payed tribute to Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve's Superman. Brandon Routh is also underrated in the film.
Back in the day Hot Toys was still not on the ball with their figures. Their Batman Begins figure just didn't compare with the standards we now know. Takara and Medicom beat HT for the Batman Begins competition.
Superman Returns had several releases but the early release of Superman and Clark Kent had better likeliness than the later release.

I always wanted a good 1:6 representation of Superman Returns but none of the Hot Toys nor Medicom releases were satisfying enough for me to pick up. I end up getting the 13" action figure from Mattel.

With a new Man of Steel movie coming. Chances of getting another Superman Returns figure is very very slim.

Yup. Returns is my favorite Superman movie. Even above S2. I just cringe a bit more while watching that one. SR I can watch cringe free. I too thought Routh was great. Best since Reeve. There is just something about the John Williams score that instantly turns an actor into the man of steel.

That said I hope the new movie is great. It would be nice to see supes get the kind of recognition that came with Nolands DK.

I feel you Tortfeazor. I would buy for sure if the HS was as good as the Swat Gordon HS. I for one liked Superman Returns. It was a homage to Donner films but the whole kid thing ruined it for a lot movie goers.

Ugh... Superman Returns. I can appreciate what SR tried to do and what they were going for, but they just didn't execute anything particularly well imo. Superman was a stalker and an absentee father. Kate Bosworth was awful. Lex Luthor was still too campy. No action. Overuse of an awful, obvious cgi Superman. I did not believe a man could fly at all. Even the Williams theme really doesn't feel like it belongs. I'm not sure I'd even say Routh was that good. He was ok as a Christopher Reeve rip-off, but he really had no charm or charisma and I'm inclined to believe that his less then stellar acting ability was masked by the fact that he had very little to do.

Still, like I said, I can appreciate what they tried to do and I don't necessarily hate it, but it really is just an awful mess of a Superman movie. Hopefully Snyder/Nolan/Goyer have something special in store for us and they can put Superman back on the map.

All that being said, would I buy a HT Superman from SR if they re-visited it? Maybe. I probably would, but I'm not dying for them to do one.

I can appreciate your opinion even if I don't agree. Being a carbon copy of the originals it's still better in my opinion than any of those first movies. Way too campy. Superman is only as good as his villain is bad. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor just didn't do it for me. Especially with Otis trailing behind him the entire time making him look rediculous. "Mista Lutor! Mista Lutor!" Pathetic. Kevin Spacey has something much more sinister about him that Hackman couldn't achieve. Again the originals laid the ground work so most of the heavy lifting was already there in place. They just picked up where Donner left off respectfully. Not the greatest movie ever or anything but a great story with a lot of heart.

I feel like SR did for superman what Tim burton did for batman to get him away from the campy kid story comic books that plagued the industry for so many years when comics were considered to "rot kids brains."

I'm, like you, really hoping this new movie will give superman some much needed respect and live up to the hero that he deserves to be recognized for. The trailers so far look amazing but they are just trailers. Fingers crossed.

Oh, I totally agree Spacey was a lot more sinister then Hackman ever was. The beat down of Superman is brutal and Spacey is at his evil best in that scene. However, I still felt like there was some campiness to his performance with Kitty and his henchmen. Not to mention he was still the scheming real-estate agent, but oh well.

As for SR doing for Superman what Batman 89 did for Batman I'm not sure I'd say that. The thing is Superman: The Movie, while it's certainly some what campy by today's standards, in 1978 it was an epic film that took the source material seriously and didn't really try to dumb it down or camp it up like the old Batman show. Sure Lex was over the top, but for the most part the movie was played pretty straight and that really was the film that paved the way for all other superhero films to come. I'm not sure I'd say SR had that same kind of impact. It was just kind of more of the same. Yes, it was a bit more serious and not as campy, but it still didn't do much to update the character for modern audiences imo.

I pretty much agree with everything in your post. I never understood the hate. It felt like a Superman movie to me, some great images and the effects were pretty decent.

89 bats I was only 9. I remember it well though, it was quite scary in parts... at that age. :lol

In most Superman stories, it's like the explanation in Kill Bill, i am sure you have all heard it.
Superman is the antithesis of most Superheroes. He wears his own clothes as Superman, and his disguise is Clark Kent(Spiderman is Peter Parker's disguise, to view the "normal" way that a Superhero has a disguise), and the way he can do anything as Superman, but is bumbling and clumsy as Clark Kent speaks volumes for Superman's view of Humanity.
But Superman Returns was the time when that got turned on it's head and presented him as vulnerable and able to be hurt(And not just by Lex with a Kryptonite dagger), and not just an immortal god who helps out and views humanity as a flawed creation who need his help all the time.
I love Superman Returns for that.
And although i have high hopes for Cavill as Superman(And i will SO have that HT figure on pre-order as soon as it's announced), Routh is my favourite Superman. Because he portrayed the strength, but also the weakness.
