Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

yeah the Space Jockey is an unofficial name given to the race that the creature in the huge chair, the 'big dental patient', belonged to. There was no official name, the only official name is "the Pilot" and that's only in reference to the specific creature they discovered. Space Jockey became a nickname and was eventually used to refer to that creature and its entire race. Although it began unofficially it might as well be the official name now, just like how officially the Aliens are called xenomorphs but we might as well just call them by their nickname, aliens.

thanks for helping me make my point:)

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

So Scott is involved....

I consider that a good thing, but we'll see as the hype machine winds up and churns expectations up to TPM levels for this just how many childhoods are raped because Scott may have the gall to try something different with this instead of giving the fanboys what they want with the final product...

At the very least, it should be interesting to watch...

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

If it's a prequel, it's innevitable that the film will somehow bother fans not meeting their expectations in terms of story.

However, I'm confident if he's director, however much the story may not be what you think it should or shouldn't be, the presentation and execution will be the best we've seen since Alien 3.

Holy s>>>! I've noticed this thread being active the past few days but I didn't bother entering it because never in a million years did I think there'd be news like this!!

Very interesting now. Even if he can't make the Alien scary again we could still at least stand a chance at getting a :)horror) good film!! With characters to give a crap about!

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

Great news for old fanboys.

not only that but there are kids growing up on AVP garbage and used to that sort of stuff so this would be a really great opportunity to please fanboys but also re-introduce the aliens to the larger audiences. Hopefully, if this turns out as awesome as I can imagine, this might teach hollywood that reboots deserve a lot of care and shouldn't be an opportunity for crappy directors to take it in whatever direction they want carte blanche. I also have my fingers crossed for the new NOES remake, if it's a well done reboot hopefully that will add to the new bar that's being set in the realm of sci-fi and horror. After a long dark age we might be entering into a new period of freshness.

Wow that sounds idealistic, but a fanboy can and must dream!

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

And I'm a very old fanboy!!!

Hoping this will encourage Fox to speed up the release of the Alien the Blu-rays :whip

Why bother? All HD films are going to be downloadable - lots of them already are, in fact. Blu-Ray is already obsolete, as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

So we can watch it on a 50 plus inch screen with awesome surround sound, and theatre seats. If you have that setup on your computer already, then I hear you. A majority of people don't though.

In New Zealand, broadband isn't very broad  And I'm old fashioned! I’m a sucker for fancy packaging and actually having the product physically in my hands.

Yeah! And what he said. ;)

Well said. And as much as I don't care for prequels, after three decades there is still much we don't know about the Alien. I hope to see it's origin explored and not just the space jockey's chest exploding. Still, as much as I love Ridleys work over the years, this is not the same visionary that brought us Alien. Hopefully getting back to his roots will bring us another masterpiece. Whatever the outcome, i'm very excited about this.

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

Home gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 already allow HD movie downloads, as well. It's pretty much guaranteed to happen, even if it isn't considered "the norm" quite yet.

Hopefully, with all the money and resources used on silly plastic discs, it might end up being cheaper to the consumer in the long run.

yes, Yes, YES!!!!! My kid (16 yr old) has seen and LIKES AvP and AvP:R (on DVD only), but won't see the orignial Alien with me, because she thinks it will be too scary. I feel like I've failed as a father.

We need Ridley to show the tykes how it is supposed to look.

I can't imagine how dissapointed you must feel... :)

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

I watched the 1st alien when I was 5......CHANGED MY LIFE! :lol

No....really! :monkey2

Re: Alien remake/reboot is GO

Actually, I remember hearing Ridley say he wanted to do a film that explored the aliens' origins. That would be awesome.
