Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Maybe. Movie could still flop, and make little money.

So it was a risk. Since this film is very expensive.

But we'll see. It's getting buzz. Most people don't know it's Alien related, which is good. And the people who do, are just as interested.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I wouldn't be bothered if Fox wanted this to be PG-13. it's a 100 million plus film and you want as many people as possible to see it. If you need to cut a little blood out than that's what you have to do. I know artistic integrity is important and trying to be faithful to the source that this is based on but at what cost? 10s of millions of dollars? I would say most people that are going to see this will probably have no idea it's based on or have never seen the original Alien film. If pg-13 and R rated is the difference between a possible sequel or franchise I would play the safe route if I were fox and save the R rating for a sequel. But if this is a one off film then by all means make it R rated lol

in terms of a better film it probably wise to let Scott turn in the film he wants to though yeah?

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Sure. But that means nothing. If it flops, no one cares if it was good.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

You and I would I reckon.

There are a lot of flicks that don't do well in the cinema but find a big audience later. Scott knows all about that with blade runner as I'm sure everyone ITT knows.

What am I trying to say? I think it is that if I were a fox exec and Ridley Scott says he wants to do another alien chapter I would stay the ____ outta his way and promote the ____ outta it.

If the film he turned in to me was R then so what? It's freakin Ridley Scott doing an alien film - put the marketing boys to work! Anybody who likes a scary movie is gonna wann see this flick.

This is all hypothetical of course :rotfl

Rated R eh? My wife enjoyed the James Cameron Aliens flick so I'll take her along with me, so I don't have to sit by myself. :p

She's a fan of horror films too so thats a plus.

:goodpost: Completely Agree!

This is Ridley making an Alien movie. As much as the studio may want to make the most money out of it, I'm pretty sure they considered the material and director before they decided on the movie's budget. In other words, they wanted a PG-13 rating, but were prepared for Ridley's "R" film.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

If Prometheus fails at making money, that's the end of Alien. Period. In any way, shape or form.

Unless they do another crappy AvP flick for money.

Finding an audience later is moot. You either break even in the theatrical run, or your ____ed.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

No. I wouldn't want Alien to end. It can keep going forever, if the right people latch onto it.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I really believe Prometheus will be ground breaking. Fox really invested and gave creative freedom to Ridley which is why Alien was such a success (referring to creative freedom). My hopes is that as Lindelof and Scott suggested, the Prometheus sequel will divert farther away from the ALien mythos and establish its own universe. With that said, I am hoping Prometheus goes into its own franchise on the Space Jockey and whatever alien forms they have created. Then, with the rejuvination of the ALien franchise. I hope fox invests in a great director since Cameron is stuck on his Avatar world, to do a true sequel to Cameron's ALiens. I know there are some who are in love with ALien 3, which is not me, but as the video game Aliens: Colonial Marines is doing is bridging the gaps between Aliens and Alien 3 while incorporating the positive elements of both. Fox could really get a great story off the ground using the horror of Alien and ALien 3 and the suspense and action (Colonial Marines) of Aliens. Even using the original script focusing on Hicks, Newt and Bishop and the ALien homeworld. OF course editing needs to take place, but new life can be brought into the Alien franchise and let it end on a high note, while Prometheus becomes the new phenomena in the sci-fi world that is ground breaking like Terminator and ALiens is

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Alien 3 is canon. And will always be canon.

Plus, the only way an Aliens sequel could work, would be have the cheesy "The Alien survived the blast a LV-426"....however, if someone really, really good did that story line, and it worked, i'd be OK with it.

...isn't that the storyline for Aliens: Colonial Marines?

I hate watching the game's videos because of the constant Alien 3 bashing.. :monkey4
