Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Peoples enjoyment with this is measured by their ability to let go of fanboyism. It's not what you wanted, but if you can accept the reality of that, it's a great movie.

I feel like most wanted a carbon copy of Alien; and they still wouldn't be happy.

Re: Prometheus SUPER Spoilers!

I think that's where the "this is not a prequel to Alien" comes in. Yes, it's in the same universe and takes place before Alien, but it's not on the same planet. I don't know whether they just weren't allowed to do a direct prequel to Alien or not, but I think many people watching the film are going to believe it is the same planet as on Alien.

It's a prequel, but not one that leads into Alien. There's atleast another one or two stories that could be told before Alien.

Didn't see this post. Exactly what I was thinking

:exactly:

I don't get the constant "If you don't like it, then you were expecting Alien" type of comments. I knew exactly what I was going to see going into the movie. Infact I was expecting even less direct Alien reference (there is quite a lot).

My problems with the movie are on it's own basis. The script is an absolute mess. If I saw it and never even knew of the existence of Alien, I would have even more issues with the plot holes, bad dialogue, seemingly pointless motivation and cardboard cutout characters. Alien or no Alien? Infact I think some of the biggest problems it has are the Alien references shoe-horned into a different plot. It feels chopped together from different sources.

To me the problems can be summed up by this.. We see the Alien ship crash in a very similar position to the one in the 1979 classic. But wait no, no it's not actually that ship. then why put it in in the first place.
Thats just bad writing, they should have done something completely different. The movie is full of copycat sequences from Alien, but then they try to tell us it's not related, again, bad writing.

But it looks wonderful. Fassbender was great, as was Theron. And I still loved it for being so interesting to watch.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Just came back from watching the film, I found it pretty good.

It was great to look at, had great acting, and it had some epic moments.

:exactly:People have a hard time watching an entire universe they built in their heads crumble into a million pieces. Fact is, this is what Ridley Scott envisioned and he has created what I would call the most faithful, while original on it's own, prequel in cinema history. There are plot holes, but who's to say Ridley doesn't have a secret agenda? More room for sequels/prequels

Indeed and hopefully that's the plan.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Its actually really good, especially towards the end part. IF YOU DONT WANT TO RUIN YOUR PROMETHEUS EXPERIENCE DO NOT READ THIS< YOUVE BEEN WARNED DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO. Warning dont open all of them by once. Do it in order up to down
LOTS AND LOTS OF 1979 ALIEN NOSTALGIA COMES BACK EVEN THOUGH I WASNT EVEN BORN THEN.
3rd spoiler is a major spoiler, dont read if you dont want to. only read if you love reading spoilers. no im not trolling you
There is a GIANT facehugger that plants an embryo into the engineer. Hence that prototype alien appears.

Random thoughts...
I know we are talking of the Protoxeno being one of the first aliens to be born but considering there is an alien in the mural in the temple, I wonder how the first alien came to be? The film implies that for an alien to be born it must follow the rules of an embryo being planted into a host, hence the giant squiddy.

Mutated male plants his seed (has sexy time) inside a woman > Woman gives birth to giant facehugger > Giant facehugger does what we expect of a normal facehugger and plants an embryo inside the Engineer.

I'm curious to see how the Engineers created the first giant squiddy...

I guess it was their idea of evolution.Kind of like us, bacteria-monkey-human (Obviously missing out on "details").
But there is a lot of >>>>>Facehugger-engineer love<<<<<< in the movie.
BTW Roger Ebert review Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" is a magnificent science-fiction film, all the more intriguing because it raises questions about the origin of human life and doesn't have the answers.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Interesting thoughts.
It's possible that after creating the species, the engineers planted a seed (possibly inside one of their own) to test the lethality of their 'weapon'. Thing is, there are so many different stages/mutations of the species that it's hard to make sense of it all.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

finally watched it....

so that was their "final solution" plan for us? to turn us into ala-28 days later crazy mofos and kill each other.

i'm a bit disappointed about that...

and
what the hell happened to the other space jockeys after getting contaminated? they showed dead bodies with holes in their torso...

and
those ______ snake were mutated worms
what happens to them?

the only boobies this movie have are the alien keyboard. yep. those engineers sure know the way of the universe. lolz

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I enjoyed it. It wasn't the film I was expecting and it's impossible for me to rate it at this moment due to lack of sleep and I'm still thinking about it! My expectations were not met, but much of that is due to pre-conceived expectations that were too high. It did lack the slow pace of the original, but again this is a different film altogether. That said, words can't do Fassbender justice to how great his work is in this film. My man crush on him just continues after watching this :lol David was a delight to watch and
I was rooting for him because of his treatment by the humans, especially Hollaway
I strongly recommend the 3D version. Stunning work here. I am looking forward to seeing this again and letting my perspective settle.

I do wish the film wouldn't have left so many of the answers it raised for the sequel (if there is one) Prometheus felt like a build up to a sequel, and the other films felt very self contained. That's my only real criticism.
