Why not have one there in general? You're escaping some kind of catastrophe and you're injured and in need of medical attention. You have a doctor and or medic but without the surgery pod, but they can only do so much since they don't have the tools. And besides, the pod itself was configurable for either man or woman, it just needed to be set. Shaw didn't calibrate it for her gender, but she was able to at least manually create the procedure for herself.

I think it was because Weyland had maybe just used it. I could be wrong but it kind of makes sense in the lead up to the underlying agenda of the mission; to keep Weyland alive.

The Engineer was on a mission to destroy earth. I'm guessing that during the incident aboard the ship he put himself into hypersleep to protect himself. Once he woke up his first thought would be to complete the mission. I guess it didn't help waking up to see the very race you were hoping to destroy standing right infront of you.

It was odd how he tenderly caresses David, then rips his head off; I guess it to him awhile to come to his senses.

Whether I hate the movie or not, I've gotta say, the official trailer was just perfect. I remember the night it came out, and I remember watching it on my laptop...was possibly the most exciting experience of my life. The build up, the music, then that sound from the Alien trailer...uhg.
So great.

Forget the trailer, it was like the trailer for The Phantom Menace, nothing like the movie totally or narratively. Both trailers were amazing.

I love Prometheus, but it is very very flawed. Technically and structurally it makes no sense. Narratively I don't mind a movie being vague and open ended. But this script takes almost copy cat classic Alien elements and puts them randomly into a script with no meaning or logic.

But.. It is still incredibly cool. Just such a pity, it could have been a classic.
