The Engineers are the "Gods" that create and destroy life. I think the Engineer decided to destroy life on Earth because he saw the way that humans behaved in his presence. That was all he need to see to decide our fate.

Except the engineers decided to destroy mankind 2000 years or so before the events in the movie.

I'm still in the camp that we're incubators. A species created to host these things as weapons. Real question is....what were they fighting?

For engineers, something always seems to go wrong with their ships.

Aliens got out, and bred.

Maybe they're fighting these creatures. And they need something more powerful to fight them.

So they create us, which can incubate the perfect life organism, which can wipe out whatever the proto xenos are.

Woo! Speculation is fun.

How did you get that? Because of the carbon dating that was done on the Engineer that was decapitated by the door to the cockpit?

What aliens got out? There's no indication of any alien running loose like there was in the first first. Just a bunch of engineers piled up at a door.

And if they're engineers, why didn't they design a door without a safety feature so it can't chopped your head off? That's seems really unsafe.

Since Shaw and David were flying one of those ships I wonder if Shaw was the one in the SJ suit which appeared in Alien. It would make for an interesting sequel if it happens.

Going out for wings then this! 4 hours til movie starts, still not sure if I'm going to watch it in 3D or 2D. I enjoyed Avengers more in 2D on our theatres screens, but this is an entirely different beast.

Or, the engineer at the beginning of the movie was a rogue that decided he was going to start life on Earth without the 'correct' permission from his peers. Like a version of Prometheus in Greek mythology...
