Re: Prometheus SUPER Spoilers!

James Cameron and Ridley Scott are good friends right? Cameron is the one who even told him he should make a big sci-fi film..right?

I wonder.....

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I'm gonna see it again, but this time in 3D :D I know what to expect but the visuals will add a new dimension I'm sure :rock

Re: Prometheus SUPER Spoilers!

Ridley Scott said already said the opening scene takes place on Earth.

RS: I was hoping I had with the fact that you have a sequence at the beginning of the film that is fundamentally creation. It’s a donation, in the sense that the weight and the construction of the DNA of those aliens is way beyond what we can possibly imagine …

Movies.com: That is our planet, right?

RS: No, it doesn’t have to be. That could be anywhere. That could be a planet anywhere. All he’s doing is acting as a gardener in space. And the plant life, in fact, is the disintegration of himself.

If you parallel that idea with other sacrificial elements in history – which are clearly illustrated with the Mayans and the Incas – he would live for one year as a prince, and at the end of that year, he would be taken and donated to the gods in hopes of improving what might happen next year, be it with crops or weather, etcetera.

I always think about how often we attribute what has happened to either our invention or memory. A lot of ideas evolve from past histories, but when you look so far back, you wonder, Really? Is there really a connection there?”

Then when I jump back, and you put yourself in a situation of a cave painting, you see that someone 32,000 years ago is showing me a little man sitting in the darkness, using a candle light that is fat from a creature he killed and ate. And in the darkness are two or three other family members whose body heat is warming the cave. But he has discovered that from a piece of this black, burnt stick, he has discovered that he can draw pictures on the wall.

In essence, you have the first level of emotion and a demonstration of entertainment, right? Because he’s drawing brilliantly on the God damn wall. Now, you put yourself into that context, it’s 100-times bigger than Edison. And people don’t go back to the basics and ask, “Holy ____, what gave him that knowledge, that jolt to not scribble on the wall but draw on it brilliantly?”

If you go back and look, a completely underrated film is Quest for Fire. That was one of the most genius, simplistic but incredibly sophisticated notion of what it was. The evolution of that was just fantastic. And that got me sitting back on my ass thinking, “Damn! What a fundamentally massive idea.”

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Going out for wings then this! 4 hours til movie starts, still not sure if I'm going to watch it in 3D or 2D. I enjoyed Avengers more in 2D on our theatres screens, but this is an entirely different beast. :dunno

Prometheus was filmed in 3D. Avengers was post-converted.

I seen Prometheus in 3D and it looked good. There were some really great shots. But I still really don't care for 3D. If it wasn't filmed in 3D I would have just seen in normally.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Saying this again tomorrow night

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Ok, just got back. Not sure if I liked it, loved it, or whatnot. I wasn't particularly taken by any one character. And does Charlize Theron have to play a serious beyotch in every movie she's in? Kinda done with her.

Character of David was the most fascinating, but not likable (to me), but he was well acted.
I did love seeing some cool new creatures, and assume they were just Weapons of Mass Destruction as the Capt indicated.

Final scene with Space Jockey seemed more obligatory than anything, what with the birth of an early version of our Alien
, but it was pretty cool

Without a doubt the Geologist dude with his shaved sides and the goofy Biologist have to be some of cinema's biggest dumbasses of all time

I'm still in the camp that we're incubators. A species created to host these things as weapons. Real question is....what were they fighting?

I think they just wanted to become supreme gods of the universe:dunno Who doesn't?:lol

The lifecycle is really getting to me now. They knew what a full grown xeno looked like, but how? And WTF is with that slime, the stuff David put into Holloway? What was it doing to him?

And how did Fifield become mutated? He was dying, 'naturally', one moment and the next he was ____ing ____ up and refusing to die:slap

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Yeah for a science crew some of the scientists were pretty dumb.

Re: Prometheus SUPER Spoilers!

He wasn't dying. He was mutating. Check this out. This is what was going to happen to Fifield...

And apperently it was filmed.

Check out his limbs.

So I wonder why it was cut, or replaced. Maybe for pacing issues? Scene could've gone on too long?

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

More dumb then Kane?

:lol

But without dumb people, you wouldn't have a movie.

If everyone was smart, everything would be avoided, you'd get no monsters. :D

Re: Prometheus SUPER Spoilers!

Saw this movie and didn't love it, but did enjoy it; my issues, in no particular order:

Terrible old man makeup on Guy Pearce. Really bad work.

Geologist and Biologists were the biggest douches in the movie. Hated them both, and Geologist freaks out 2 seconds after they arrive? Come on! Biologists wants to pet the alien snake thing? I rooted for them to DIE.

None of the characters were memorable, aside from David.

Not a fan of Charlize Theron, so found her character pretty grating.

I pretty much hated the main guy that turned into that badass Ninja Alien or whatever he was doing. Not as big a ****** as the Biologist, but close

What I did like/love:

look of film

Main arc of story

Space Jockeys/Engineers

Ending - hope to see more

But he was the guy who had his helmet melt onto his face, right? How did that mutate him?

And was the same happening to Holloway?

Re: Prometheus SUPER Spoilers!

What aliens got out? There's no indication of any alien running loose like there was in the first first. Just a bunch of engineers piled up at a door.

And if they're engineers, why didn't they design a door without a safety feature so it can't chopped your head off? That's seems really unsafe.

ha ha ha! You guys crack me up at times! Good point!

A not so well thought out movie, many things just didnt make a whole lot of sense.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

But dumb characters who are scientists? The biologist was laughably stupid. The script wasn't the best either with some dialogue giving AVP a run for its money. But overall I didn't let that distract from my enjoyment of the movie. Did not enjoy the 3D as much as I would have liked. Thinking of going again tomorrow to see it in 2D.
