Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

Scott: Yeah, the thing about "Alien vs. Predator" is, I know it's commerce, but what a pity. I think, therefore, I have to design — or redesign — earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in "Alien," which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger.

Scott: I don't want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out.

No mention of 3D either!

Interesting to see if this will happen.

If ridley scott and giger want to make this then it will be worth going to the cinema to see.
If either pulls out or is not involved then it will be mediocre.

Was really disapointed with avp and requiem.

Pretty much all of the alien series after alien were inferior except aliens, but each brought something different and all had merits.
I guess its just rehashing an old idea and nothing totally original is coming out these days.

Saying that avatar was a step in the right direction.

And predators will be good fun and will have some great figures.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

At this point (not having seen the redesigned Alien) I feel pulling the Alien back to the original Giger bio-mechanical design and away from the ADI creature would be enough. I also like the mystery surrounding the "Space Jockey" and not sure I need to have it explained.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

The quicker this 3D bs is over with, the happier I'll be.

The funniest quote from Scott is when he said they didn't put Robin Hood in 3D because it was good enough as is.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

I don't think 3D is BS, but certainly that everyone in Hollywood will jump on it, right or wrong, because it's the big hype thing right now is. If used properly, I think it can be a very engaging way to view a movie and add to the feeling of being a part of the action. Something like Avatar where it's used to make the entirity of what you're seeing seem 3D and surrounding you is powerful, things like older 3D movies where it was more used at moments where something is flying in the air and they want it to pop off the screen can be a bit cheesy.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

Yea but whats this about redisigning the alien!?!? He said that he wanted so show the more gruesome side of the xenomorph world, Does that mean they will accedentally try to terraform an alien world, with different types of alien? that would be neat

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

This sounds good, this series needs a series reboot. The comic stories were very good and creative not a rehash of what has been done in the movie sequels, too bad none of these made it on to the silver screen. I sure hope Scott takes it back to horror.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

He's trying to get Giger back to do the designs. That's good enough for me.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

Okay, so this is gonna be a 2 parted movie sequel to the first alien movie, what are they gonna show us? the space jockey's planet/tribe whatever? and how he finaly crash landed? I guess it will be an open ending or something since the space jockey had a face hugger in his chest and it bursted out, but hasn't been found.

Re: Ridley Scott's A L I E N Prequel 3D

I agree. It destroys the mystery like explaining where the monolith in 2001 came from and what it was. Arthur Clarke did that in his novels and we found out it was part of a giant virus. Totally destroyed the mystery and the myth of Kubrick's masterpiece. Same with Lucas explaining what the Force was and finding out it's a bunch of micropscopic cells called Midiclorians. We don't need nor require an explanation. Leave well enough alone. Ridley, you are a much better filmaker than this. Don't stoop down to Lucasian levels.

Re: Ridley Scott's A L I E N Prequel 3D

I hate the premise now. It's too contrived.

It's cheap and shoddy...

All we needed was the discovery of natural creatures and man's devious machinations to harvest them. The origin of a species is just that, unexplained. It evolved, period. Maybe explain why they evolved that way, that could be far more interesting, but no other explanation is needed.

Does anyone need to explain how killer crocs came to be? Or carnivorous dinosaurs or man eating sharks? It's Bull ____. :monkey2

Ridley was pretty much forced to direct this, but his hands are all over so I don't give him any slack. It's his.

I can't see how this won't piss off the core audience.

Re: Ridley Scott's A L I E N Prequel 3D

This is why Hollywood should go back to original ideas instead of regurgitating old ones. I'd love to see Ridley develop an entirely new original science fiction film that has absolutely nothing to do with Alien.

:lecture:lecture Yup. I always get excited when I hear the people behind the originals are wanting to work on furthering the universe. However, sometimes they don't need to over explain things. Leave some of the origin/creation mystery to subjective interpretation.

Re: Ridley Scott's A L I E N Prequel 3D

People have always thought the Aliens were created....I expected worse...

I'm not sure where you even got they were created by the Jockey's in that quote...?

The writer said that. They just said the film is about terraforming. That doesnt say really anything....

I'm on a HUGE wait and see approch with this. Predators I enjoyed for what it was....but Alien has a much more deeper connection with me. I cant judge it as easily. It has to be pretty much amazing, or I hate it.

Re: Ridley Scott's A L I E N Prequel 3D

Eh, I'd rather Ridley Scott give us their origin than some hack like Paul BS Anderson.
