Just took a peek.....
l'm not getting involved in THAT!

Re: Ridley Scott's A L I E N Prequel 3D

I think it will be hard to do a prequel and NOT explain how things came to be. But I agree, I don't want the mystery totally explained to me. In almost every case, when it is explained, it is not as interesting as how I imagined it.

I'm curious how much influence Ridley has on the script itself. I'm not going to read it to try to remain as spoiler-free as I can.

Did I read this right?

Natalie Portman is up for the role of a Colonial Marine General. WTF?

Yes, as I mentioned in my previous post. I don't think possible casting news is spoilerish. :D

Agreed, in fact Ridley was so impressed with Giger's painting, he decided to use it to build the interior of the Derelect Spaceship. An explanation was impossible at that time. The Space Jockey was in fact inspired by a previous Film...

Actually, the Derelict ship and Space Jockey Imagery did not originate from Giger. Ridley was inspired by images from the 1965 Film "Planet of the Vampires" which included a Derelict ship and a "Space Jockey" which in this case was an oversized Humanoid skeleton found by the derelict ship.

I remember you mentioning this some time back. I'll have to see it on netflix now.

Cool on Ridley's influence. As long as he is not a puppet to the studio, the movie has potential.

Ok, I really don't know what to make of this:

https://www.aintitcool.com/node/47014

Here's the juicy bit:

Following THESE reports that Fox and Sir Ridley Scott were at odds over the target rating of Scott's new ALIEN prequel (Fox was said to want PG-13, Scott was said to be gunning for an R)...and rumors of alleged budgetary concerns (some reports pegged Scott's desired budget for the project at a whopping $250 million - others say it's closer to $150-$160 million)...Vulture now reveals that LOST's Damon Lindelof has delivered a budgetarily attractive, PG-13 script revamp that makes the studio very happy.

The Powers That Be at Fox and Scott Free are now said to be eying Natalie Portman for the prequel's lead - "that of a female Colonial Marine general" - with Noomi Rapace (the Swedish version of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO) garnering considerable interest as well (we'd previously heard her name associated with the picture).

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

Natalie Portman in an alien movie? Just not feeling that. Natalie Portman as a Colonial Marine General? Definitely not feeling that.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

Wait, so if that other guy wrote a PG-13 script, is Scott onboard?
Either way, this is bull____. Although I honestly could've called this one, I can't believe FOX is doing this again.

As for Natalie Portman? I can see her being in an Alien movie, but really not as a a general. Not only that, but she's totally the wrong age. Maybe a different sort of role. Still leading, just different.

We saw Winona Rider in an Alien movie...and I NEVER EVER EVER EVER thought that would happen.

As for the PG-13 crap...I CALL BULL____ ON FOX! :slap

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

so............fox is happy about the new script, but doesnt sound like Scott is on board with it, i bet he bails

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

Who knows if any of this can be believed. But the whole Natalie 5"3 Portman as a General in the colonial marines idea is so ridiculous I have to believe its someone just having a laugh. The unanimous W T F reaction would have been too predictable for anyone to be serious about it.

As for Fox messing Ridley scott around if thats also true - well I don't think Ridley scott is a flawless director but if somehow, by some miracle - after you've run the franchise into the ground with totally crap films that embarrass the very name of the series - you manage to woo back the original director of the universally praised first film to do another one......YOU LET HIM DO WHATEVER THE ___K HE WANTS!!! Morons.

I really hope he doesn't. If he bails, FOX will undoubtedly put out their newer, crappier version of Scott's vision. We need an anchor in there to talk them down, otherwise it's like giving them keys to the playpen to do whatever they want with the franchise.

Couldn't have said it better, man.

Re: Ridley Scott's A L I E N Prequel 3D

If it's PG-13, then it's over. The Alien franchise is dead. I'm writing this ____ off if Fox ____s with it. I thought we were way past this bull____. They let Robert do his thing...but I guess it was because his flick cost a mere precentage compared. Bah.

This ____ing sucks.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

Portman is an amazing actress. She's perfect for anything.

PG-13 is perfect for nothing. ____ this ____. ____ this ____ing mother ____ing movie.

This is the equivilant of bringing a hot chick home, and finding out she has a _____. ____ing ____!

Yeah I read that too. I'm sick of all this "lets please the studio" PG-13 crap.

However, I do believe Scott can pull it off. So I have faith.

Re: Official 3D ALIEN Prequel Discussion Thread

If only there was some way we could get FOX to see this thread...
