I'm quite looking forward to this, I can't see it ever beating the original 2 & that's the problem because people are naturally going to compare it to them but it'll definitely be better than A3 & AR

Oh, well that's just great.
This has to be the first time a much publicised film has gestated in to something completely different. What on earth is the thinking behind this? How do you go from "let's make an incredible Alien movie" to "you know what let's just drop the whole Alien angle".

Arguments with the studio maybe? Fox wanting to take it in one direction while Scott wanted to take it in another? That's my guess, though I haven't been following the news on this closely.

My guess as well.
Fox probably couldn't convince Scott of doing the type of Alien movie they wanted, so they were smart and let him do the movie he wants to do without it having to be about the alien.
So now Fox probably goes back to AvP3 or something.

How can you not be passionate about ALIEN?
If Scott can't look back and be inspired by a prequel then why not drive the series forward?
Whatever this film ends up as it will always be the film that could have been.
It could have sucked.
It could have been awesome.
Maybe the bio engineered weapon idea has already run it's course. And whether the setting or consequences is Earth or space Ridley doesn't want his own sloppy seconds.

I'm actually very glad to hear about this. I was worried that the Alien name might've been dragged further into the mud. They never should have made Resurrection or the AvP's anyway.
Yes, since Ridley was on it, it did stand a chance. However, I'm much more excited to see Ridley do something in the Sci-Fi realm that's completely original. Also, from what he said, it almost sounds like this might be some kind of spiritual successor.
Next up, he needs to go tap into thinking about Legend and do something else in that vein...
(Also, the name "Prometheus" really piques my curiosity/interest, because it's the name of my favorite Greek myth character.)

"spiritual successor" - even if those weren't the exact words thats also the impression I got from the article. I wonder could it mean that whatever this film ends up being it could still be set in the Alien universe and just has nothing to do with the xenomorphs. Wasn't there a thread wondering if the universe seen in Bladerunner was one and the same with Alien?
