Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

yeah...I don't think this could have worked.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

If it was, they'd have at least used white blood for the replicants :lol.

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

I really had no reaction to this. It's probably for the best tbh.

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

I think everyone who thinks this movie wouldnt work fails to miss the point....

RIDLEY SCOTT....ALIEN...AGAIN. :lol

It needed to happen. Because if Scott cant make a good Alien movie, no one can. And that's that. That's all I ask for. Nothing else. Another Ridley Scott Alien movie. :(

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

And if Ridley wants to drop millions of his own money to make it on his terms that'd be great, but unfortunately Fox owns Alien, not Ridley, so they ultimately can make any and every judgement call, and they don't have a good track record. I'm sure Ridley would rather do something original and be credited for it like he was with Alien, then return to a stale dying franchise he created to ressurect it for an unappreciative studio who will only use it as a jumping off point for 10 more ____ty sequels. Even if you can make a good film out of the franchise now, it won't be original, they've explored every aspect of the alien, and brought it into the light with statues and figures for 30 years. It's tough to make that scary again. And if you need to go that radically differant for something new, the franchise is dead and its best to just call that something new.

I think you're missing these points....

RIDLEY SCOTT....DIDN'T CREATE....ALIEN.

ALIENS....DIDN'T HAVE....RIDLEY SCOTT....AND IT MADE....MORE MONEY THAN....ALIEN.

Ridley Scott directing doesn't automatically = success. Or did you forget that 2010 bomb from Scott called Robin Hood?

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

ALIEN...WILL ALWAYS BE...BETTER THEN ALIENS...PERIOD...:lol.

Ridley is the only man I want touching another Alien movie.

And even though it's my life long dream to direct an Alien movie, I I'd feel like I couldnt do it total justice. It's too important to me, I'd feel too intimidated. I mean, I wouldnt pass down the offer.....but damn. I love these movies. I grew up with them. They hold a special place in my life. They're what inspired me to love and want to make movies. I want to see more Alien films, but not if they're on the level of the AvP flicks. Which is why I wanted...no...needed Scott to make this. If he failed, then that's it.

And by the way, he didnt entirely create Alien, but he's the reason why it is the way it is. Any other director, and that movie wouldnt exist.

That's arguable. Dan O'Bannon came up with the concept, wrote the script and he's also the one who found Giger who designed the Alien and all of the alien architecture. And Ronald Shusett is the one who came up with the whole idea of the chest burster and one of the crew being impregnated.

So realistically.. a lot of the memorable elements of Alien would've still been there without Ridley Scott as director. More so than if you removed Giger or O'Bannon/Shusett from the equation.

:lecture I wish I could un-see Robin Hood.

They created about half the concepts. Tge original script is pretty silly before the rewrites. And someone with no talen probably wouldnt've used Giger's designs correctly at all. So the chestburster scene would've been there, but would it have been shot as well? As artisticly. Robin Hood doesnt matter. He and O'Bannon, Giger and Brandywine. You remove one, just ONE piece, the film would've failed. Thats a fact.

Agreed. As a creditable film franchise, it lost its legs ages ago. Regardless who comes into direct an Alien film, its basically got no wow or scare factor. Striking out with an original concept is a brave move and I hope they pull it off.

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

I agree with the wanderer. Maybe the franchise just ran it's course. For some reasons stories, and films especially, can never seem to just end these days. How much more can you really do that hasn't been done.

IMO alien is a wonderful movie for it's time and holds up strongly today. Aliens takes it one step further and takes it into a completely different direction. And I think what aliens means for the franchise is that you can no longer go back..but bigger and better. That is an oxymoron and I think 3,4, and avp 1 and 2 prove that.

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

After reading the news I´m kinda splitted on this.
One side of me would´ve loved to finally see some insight to the space jockeys and how the aliens came to be, but the other half ALWAYS thinks, considering remakes, reboots and prequels:
Just let old films be old and work for themselves.
They don´t need to get this treatment, they´re stunning then and still are and always will be.
I´m glad the remake wave is kinda over...

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

The other thing is, part of the reason why I love the original film is because we don't know what really happened. It's never explained, so I have to use my imagination on what happened. And in almost every case, what I think of is far more interesting, far scarier than what Hollywood would put out.

The only way Ridley Scott could really do a prequel justice is if he owned his own production company and was able to buy the rights off of Fox for the film. The fact that Fox was getting nervous about the no names in the casting is just one of 1000 signs that they would have messed it up. And once it is messed up, there is no way of undoing that. Unless ofcourse they decide to reboot the Alien prequel. :lol

I find it impossible to believe that of the 1000s of scripts Fox received regarding the first AvP movie, that Paul Anderson's was the best. And their decision to hire the Brothers Strause to direct AvP:R speaks VOLUMES to their ineptitude.

Long story short, FOX would have screwed up the prequel royally, no matter who was directing.

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

Honestly I think what while it's great news to get an "original" concept it also means is that they will hire somebody else, to re-vamp the Alien franchise... and that isn't exactly encouraging...

Re: Alien Prequel – Paradise? – discussion thread

^ That's my feeling. I didnt care if it was a prequel, sequel, reboot, whatever....as long as Scott was working on the movie.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

^...it WILL be another Sci-Fi flick....because it aint Alien any more.

After letting the sting heal, I guess i'm excited. Riddles is doing sci-fi again!....yeaaayyy.......:(
