Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I've been following the project for a while now and since Ridley's declaration about the terraforming, gods and engineers stuff i was expecting something but not so clear cut.

But it's a smart move.

Scott said he wanted to match AVATAR in term of scale, so forget about a remake reboot of the original monster house concept. He also said he would tell the story of the space jockey race and the war they are supposed to be fighting (from his take the the derelict was a bioweapon transporter, from where and against who those weapons would be used?).
Ridley think also that the creatures were kinda killed by the AVP movies.
They were not scary anymore, he wants to reverse engineer them, early version and prototypes.
So no xenomoprhs as we know them.

So what we have :
A race of Godlike aliens (mostly unknown by the mainstream viewers) into a big intergalactic war (or a sanitation campaign, the xenomorphs being used to clean planets), a crew from a human corporations terraforming new worlds who get caught between either a war or a colonization campaing and no xenomoprhs.

Here we are all fans of the Alien franchise but i don't think the mainstream audience is that keen on it anymore. It's kind of forgotten for some people or not so good anymore because they associate them with the AVP (which are fun but not really good).
Nothing that justifies the 250 millions budget Ridley was asking for (blasphemy!) a dying franchise.
So the smart move for Scott and Fox it's to say it's not alien anymore.
it a whole new world, a whole new scifi franchise.
Scott gets more budget for his movie than he would have for a sequel or prequel and fox has on its hand a new potential cash cow.

So i believe that Prometheus will be an Alien prequel in disguise.
The fans will connect the dots of the script and the production designs will scream ALIEN (since that's with this spirit in mind they were designed).

One last tought, the alien prequel was supposed to be 2 films, i don't know if it's still the case but however i'm definitly sure that the link between the original ALIEN and those prequels whould have been that the derelict ship was on route towards earth (to clean it before colonization) and that Noomi Rapace (or another character) made it crash on LV426.
It would also explain how the company knew about it all.
My 2 cents ^^

Well now it's wait and see...

The fans will be able to notice the details of the story and connect the dots, the production designs (ships and creature) will scream ALIEN.
Wait and see...

This sounds quite feasible, and I truly hope you are correct. :D

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

From https://www.alienprequelnews.com/
The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter has just had a quick interview with BAFTA nominated Noomi Rapace. In this interview Rapace drops a few hints about her character in Prometheus.
The interview is in Swedish, but I've translated it for you here:

"It's going to be awesome. I play a character named Elizabeth Shaw. She's supercool! But I'm not playing Ripley from the other Alien films, although this one is connected with them"

"I've already been in the studio and tried costumes amongst other things. Now I'm going to rehearse on the script, do physical training, stunt training, language training and other preparations for the part"

Alien prequel in disguise i say ^^

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I had a feeling it would be somthing like this..

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Well, this makes more sense....

*** puts away guns and calls off lynch party***

For now... ;)

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Well, given how little we really know about the origin of the Aliens, aside from speculation in comics and fan fiction, I agree that we may still get the answeres we seek in this "shadow prequel." With the apparent nebulous direction and epic scale of this film, hinted at by Scott's and Lindelof's comments, we could be looking at the potential primordial roots of our favorite xenos, maybe even life itself. That way, a theme is born that has universal appeal while (hopefully) retaining the Alien story and signature Giger art design woven into a grander universe.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

There is no grander universe in fiction for my personal taste than that created by Giger already! I simply believe it when I see it, even after all this time. True suspension of disbelief and I thank him for it.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Excellent news! I really hope they go through with this.

I hope it isn't in 3D but most likely it will be since Ridley has a stake in a 3D company.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

This is actualy starting to sound very promising..
Thanks for that link abake.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Okay, then. So it's an original sci-fi story that is also a prequel. In other words, it's from the same universe, but with a plot that's actually unique and doesn't borrow too much from the existing quadrilogy...

Hell, I'm happy. No -- in fact, I'm mega-pumped. FINALLY! AN ALIEN MOVIE THAT'S ORIGINAL AND MIGHT ACTUALLY GIVE THE FRANCHISE A GOOD NAME AGAIN!

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I freaked out with the change at first but after reading the news and giger staying on board was great news.Plus reading the thread everyone has good points of views on this.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

This and The Hobbit are my most anticipated films on the horizon

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

im very excited bout this film, but i hope ridley and the writers dont mirror Alien with a female heroin in Noomi Rapace and an android villian in Michael Fassenbender. I hope they mix it up and have a male co-protagenist

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

once the article said "biomechanical technology" and we know that Giger is still on board I got very excited because we will have a chance to see some new Giger designs!
