The only reason I like it is it ties to Alien. It was ALWAYS going to be an Alien prequel. ALWAYS. It just shifted to be something else. It's a seperate story in the Alien universe, using characters and designs from the original. It's not a prequel like Star Wars is a prequel.

It's a very strange thing.

It's in the same universe, as Scott claims about Blade Runner too
I don't see any problem here

I guess it all depends on how the do the sequel and how they tie the final movie to Alien, if at all.

If it doesn't directly tie into Alien...then it's not a prequel. It doesn't give us any new information about the events that occur in Alien. We don't learn anything about LV-426, why the derelict was there, why the eggs were there, what happened to the Space Jockey, etc, etc.

As of now it's just a movie in the same universe that takes place before Alien. Not an actual prequel. I'm guessing the sequel(s) to Prometheus will change that though.

yeah it all has to do with the sequel or sequels. Everything.

We know what a Space Jockey is. We know who Weyland is. We know the origins of Weyland's search for the Alien. We know something new about the Alien as a species. So yeah. It's a prequel.

Not a direct tie in. But it does have it's roots.

No. Ridley and crew had to lie in order to sell the film. Too many Alien nods, and too many things to make it not a prequel.

Prove me wrong. Ridley had to lie to get people to see the film. Nothing wrong with that. Happens all the time.

Who the **** wants to see an Alien movie now, except for the hardcore fans? If this film was called ALIEN THE BEGINNING, it would do well...but it wouldn't be as hyped as it was.

It worked on two levels. Which is why it's a great prequel. Maybe not a great movie. But eh.

ccccccccccccccccanon :)

My last piece of evidence is Ridley saying if the Nostromo crew survived they'd probably join Deckhard for a pint on an Alien commentary..but I don't have it on me :p

If Promtheus is prequel Blade Runner is prequel
but it's more like expanded universe =)

Those are just fun little nods.

There's no real proof that Alien is in the same universe. YET.

If they do. So be it. But as of now...not a thing.

How did he lie????????

He said it was not a direct link or prequel, but existed in the universe and took place before. No Lie!!!!!!!!!! :monkey4

But it totally is a prequel. It sets up all the events for the Alien films to exist. He ****ing lied, and everyone knows it. No one's mad at him for it, because it worked out in the end.

Sure there is.

Weyland talking about Tyrell confirms it

Not really. Most people who didn't like it are mad becauseit wasn't a prequel or direct link.
In fact most agree it wasn't a prequel (on prometheus forums) including Ridley Scott

"The Dib" is a minority :monkey3

I SAY

Where is that in the movie, of any kind?

Little things written on a computer screen for marketing purposes isn't something i would consider canon in any way. Because those things are the first thing to be reconed if the filmmakers decide to do something else.

Fun nods. Cool to think about. Not canon just yet.

Doesn't matter if it's in the movie. The promotionals/virals are canon
also Ridley was linking Blade Runner with Alien when it was originally made. So it can't be considered recon!
