There's fanboys and there's fanatics.
I'm really happy that all the people i'm friend with, some even worked on the movie or with scott for years admit that its a pretty much flawed movies that went sour because Scott could not make up his mind about doing a straight prequel or a REALLY new movie set in the Alien universe.

In the FURIOUS GOD docu when you see Scott chomping his Cigar looking at a first cut of the movie saying about how special, good, interesting the movie is you can but think that the guy has lost his mind, that he is now so full of himself that he think he can turn a turd into gold thank to some great visuals.

ALIEN ENGINEERS was a really cool script.
ALIEN PARADISE was nice but lost most of the cool stuff.
PROMETHEUS was a mess.
A beautiful but retarded mess that tried to salvage all the ideas from various script and on set last minute ideas.
The dumbest idea and confession of weakness of this whole attempt at explaining the Engineers was that Scott and Co clearly explained in their first script what they were, wanted etc but in a desperate attempt to create or re create the mysteries of the first one he removed key elements and dialogs to make the movie artificially mysterious wich it was not.
The whole black goo thing is the perfect exemple of how lazy the final writing/shooting was, the different creatures had a proper reason to exist in the previous scripts but in prometheus they dumbed it down with the magic goo that can disolve you, mutate you, kill you, make you stronger, smarter, more beautiful, have great teeth...
The weakest plot device i've seen in years...

Scott had a cool script ALIEN ENGINEERS, he tought he could do better with PROMETHEUS but he just ****ed it up.
he should had done what he always done so far, get top notch screenwriter and let them do their job and him do his JUST SHOOT THE ****ING MOVIE, alas this time he felt he participated a lot in the writing and voila!

Why do you think Lindelof won't go back...
He hated the way he worked with Scott.

I got no problem with people loving the movie.
I have problem that its was going to be better and Scott ****ed up.
Big time.

I haven't seen Alien 3 in a while though. That's the film where Ripley stops being two dimensional though.

I was expecting you to drop that stupid chart wich was designed after the release of the movie when many people started to complain about the black goo not making sense.

I don't car about this last minute addition that dumb fans (yu seem to like name calling) like you swallow without questioning.
Hell there is even a schematic explaining how queen came to be from the black goo somewhere...
The black goo is a plot device to make everything simpler for dumb audiences.
In the original script they were taking their time to explain that the temples had different bioweapons, that had different results, different creatures.
They simplified it and not for the better.

They were so deep in production with the whole direct prequel that they left the bursted chest of the dead Engineers in the tunnels or those in their cryobeds...

My view of Prometheus is based on the scripts and its production story.
I won't be fooled like you.

Wasn't last minute. The nature of the black liquid is very easy to figure out.

Kids today like you want boom boom splosion scifi and never watched any of the Golden Age mystery stuff.
That is true science fiction, and you are just a tool.

Uhh no? It has a defined purpose, and that purpose is easy to figure out if you apply critical thinking, adding to the shown visual elements within the story. Everything doesn't have to be explained with bogged down bloated narrative exposition. This isn't a Nolan film.

You think it's random because it went over your head. The most complex math problem or foreign language seems like gibberish to those lacking knowledge.

It has plenty of mysteries, as you said the black liquid was "random" - however it wasn't. You just didn't figure out its capabilities. Also you are not a "real" movie lover. You dismiss things you can not understand and in a very crass manor.

Nothing went over my head because as you ve said yourself everything is in the movie.
The movie is clear and simple to me, it was as soon as i left the theatre.
Want proof? Check all m'y posts as ngr01 on avpgalaxy.
I was the first one to see the movie as it was preescreened in france before the rest of the world and post my review online and also discovered à lot of Stuff before the movie was out just by deduction so ***** please...

You re not able to distance yourself from That puppylove you have for the movie and see how the production aspect of it has tarnished it.

Once again i m happy for those who love it and dont want to pis on their parade but it doesnt excuse you and yur types are whats wrong with fandom these days.

Everything in the film = you have to use your eyes and observe.
Prometheus is packed full of literary and mythical references. From obvious ones like transhumanism and Frankenstein a modern day prometheus to more obscure ones like sumerian souls in jars, igigi the youngers, harmony of the spheres, wheel of krishna, the alchemic calender, XNA (xeno nucleic acid)

Quite the puzzle of a masterpiece.

Blade Runner is in the same line of canon-DNA as the Alien films?

ROY BATTY IS AN ENGINEER. Its all so clear to me now. Game over, man. That right there solves all plot-holes now. [And it would be no less ridiculous than a lot of what we saw in Prometheus.]

Tsss never said it was random.
Told you it was à simplistic plot device to make every ideas scene and concepts from the original scripts work.
It was not out of making it deeper or meaningfull.
Lindelof was hired to make the movie tighter, simpler sexier for the audience by removing set pieces, creatures characters.
Evreything That the black goo does was originally the result of different bioweapons they simplified it for the audience with one magic substance that do it all it.

Good if you like the simplicity of it.
I prefer the scientifics engineers of the original script that fell victims of their creations than the clumsy ones of the movie that managed to do the same with one product that they used for everything from sacrifice to mutation..
Probable cooked their food with it too ^^!

My last piece of evidence is Ridley saying if the Nostromo crew survived they'd probably join Deckhard for a pint on an Alien commentary..but I don't have it on me

If Promtheus is prequel Blade Runner is prequel
but it's more like expanded universe =)
