Also thinking of upgrading my Vader with the Hasbro helmet, instead of ordering a the Hot Toys one.
(only thing I would change)

Not a Vader specialist, just want a nice representation of this iconic film, and from first view this Sideshow version somehow still looks great.

To find it, is it needed to buy a complete Hasbro figure or are these offered loose?
(I remember something like that)

I think the Hurricanes will be offering a newly sculpted helmet, you might want to look into that.
Also, check if somebody's still making/selling capes and tunics, those really help elevate the look of the figure IMHO.

I am not sure if hurricane's new helmet would look good with the sideshow Anh mask. He uses a modified version of the Kaiyodo mask to go under the dome, which is smaller than sideshow's Anh version. I personally think the hasbro helmet or Hurricane's older dome would look better.

This thread is running after about 6 years and 7300 posts! I'm not the only lost in the fool research of perfection of this great figure! Impressive!

Just goes to show that everyone really really wants a good Vader and the Sideshow ANH wasn't it. At all.

Unfortunately for us none of them were/are. :(

Don't keep up with SW but saw a haul thread in another site so I came in here to check out some more of your guys pics and I'm sold. I need this immediately:emperor

Wow, I wrote this on July 17, 2009, huh?:thud:

I can't believe this was the one of my first posts here and what brought me back into collecting Star Wars again. Not to mention this was my very first 1/6th figure.

No it's actually the original sideshow dome. I did a lot of comparing and decided the sideshow dome is actually a much more accurate shape overall. It's biggest flaw is that the sides aren't flared out at a sharp enough angle (they're to vertical and should stick out more). All I did was very gently dip it in boiling water and then pull on the edges at the bottom while it was warm to try and flare it a bit more. Not sure it really did much but I think it might've made a tiny difference. Then I dremmeled out the support structure inside so I could lower and angle it properly on the mask. I was going for the way he looks in the opening scenes on the Tantive IV where the brow of the dome is lower over his eyes than the majority of the film. Vader never looked meaner and more aggressive (or better!) than those opening shots from '77 imo.

Great anh Vader Davejames! I love your mask. I think you can improve your cape. I'm working on mine and I've seen that minimal futz can give great improve. I don't know if this is the right thread for our iper modified figure (mine have really few pieces of anh sideshow vader), but here you are the last pics of mine with the collar neck of the cape under the mask.
Could we open a new trhead for our custom vader?

Anybody thinking about buying the Hot Toys Vader helmet to update the old Sideshow figure?

I think that just doing that would be a significant improvement and those who have already replaced the body and cape would possibly end up with a Vader that looks better than the new version.
