Re: Offical Sideshow Crimson Guards!

Not that I'm aware of, but for some reason I can't log onto the Newletter. Can anybody?

Re: Offical Sideshow Crimson Guards!

:lol

I was wondering How many?

Re: Offical Sideshow Crimson Guards!

I'm logged in, but the only newsletter that comes up just takes me to a page about the new features. So I can't view any of them.

Weird, I have the same login that I've been using for the past five or six years and I get a message saying I don't have an account. Hmmm.

Remember, with the switch over to our new newsletter system, you're log-in no longer should be your newsletter specific log-in information. Instead, simply log-in using your Sideshow account info and you should be able to access the newsletter.

Re: Offical Sideshow Crimson Guards!

From what I've read, no one is disputing what Sideshow said they would do. Whether or not they said they would do this or that with a license from the beginning isn't part of the argument. Frankly, I collect the Joes because I am a Joe fan and the figures are almost always "good enough," and often are very excellent, despite mods and "updates" (I do dig Firefly). But that doesn't mean someone can't still prefer that Sideshow focus on vintage looks, and hope that they would lean more in that direction with their various releases. And that perspective is just as legitimate as saying the same about Star Wars.

Good post.

Nobody can fault people for wanting them to lean that way but don't get upset when they're not spitting images of the card art. As I've said for me I really like the changes that have been made. They took the toys I had as a kid and made them better/cooler for me. So that's why for me I can't get behind people wanting them to more look like the card art.

Why can't I be upset? It's fine if you like what they've done with the Crimson Guard helmet but would you be opposed it if it reflected the original design? I don't think that was too outdated, do you?

Yes and no. Wishing is one thing. Ranting at them for not making figures accurate to the card art, when they never said they would, and actually having said to the contrary since before the first release, is complaining for the sake of doing so. :huh

That's one way to think of it but for me, it's always been about the helmet. Here's an honest question for everyone.

Original Crimson Guard helmet design vs Sideshow's Crimson Guard Helmet?

Which would you prefer if you had a choice?

If you vote for Sideshow or don't care, then, as I've said before, you'll never understand my point of view and I'd also question your taste. I wonder what more they could do to change it before you actually not like it anymore?

Thanks for the clarification, Alex! But...

Still not seeing the current newsletter only the one from 10/03.

Me too. :dunno

Re: Offical Sideshow Crimson Guards!

Did they start out by saying, "We'll be moderinizing the Star Wars license to produce contemporary versions of the Star Wars characters?"
Of course they didn't, but again, I don't think our ability to critique and prefer should be restrained by the fact that these licenses are meant to do different things. That is the argument (implicitly or otherwise) that is frequently made. You seem to now be suggesting that preferences are only valid if they are in areas where the company producing a given figure has said that they will do X, Y, or Z when they don't. I disagree. We can agree or disagree that they do what they intend to do more or less well, putting aside the initial decision to do those things at all (what you seem to be suggesting as the only valid area of criticism), or we can agree or disagree that they are doing what we would prefer that they do to begin with.

We have to compare the Joes to something that we already know. They aren't created out of thin air. They are meant to resemble in some fashion toy/cartoon/comic characters from the 1980s. Each of us has our own idea of what the essential components of each character is, and each of us has our own ideas of how well a figure captures those components. In the view of some, the closer to the card art, the better (though for the purposes of my argument whatever we use to compare the Joe figures to is irrelevant). When that doesn't happen (i.e., Firefly), criticisms are made and preferences voiced. That's what we do on a forum such as this. I'm not cursing the gods when the Siegie has an Eddie Murphy jacket or when Cobra Commander is released in a color scheme he never had. But I'll post my opinions on it--which is that I would prefer a more vintage looking figure. 'Tis a legit opinion, albeit one that Sideshow can take or leave, and most likely will leave since they are doing their own thing.

Depends on your opinion of "original" CG helmet design. Have a gander at the card art on the figure and you'll see the helmet Sideshow produced. Personally, I prefer the one on the actual figure more, but it's not a deal breaker. My issue is with the shiny bondage leather.

Exactly. But to accuse Sideshow of DDP-ing the figures because you don't feel they're exact 1:6 replications of products they were never intended to be perfect reflections of, is ridiculous. There's discussion and then there's entitlement ranting by inaccurately comparing it to a childhood raped by Lucas. :huh
