They are all battle-barbies.:D
Okay, look until my Bond figures get a 1:6 scale Hot Pink Aston Martin to cruise around in and a doll house mansion to lounger around in, and a few dozen changeable accesory outfits, my dolls are not Barbie dolls.

I think the distinction between Dolls and Action Figures is actually pretty clear. It has to do with the interaction with the owner.

When my sisters played with dolls - they literally created everything for the doll. They gave it a name. Gave it a personality. And even created the connection between them and the doll (in the case baby dolls - pretending to be the parent, etc.). And they even create the appearance for it by buying different clothes, etc for it.

The figures we collect are pre defined. They are representations of existing characters. We're basically just collecting the likenesses of those characters.

The interaction is different - which means the purpose and function is different. Which makes them different.

But that's just my definition. Most people will still call them dolls.

No big deal to me.

excuse me, but this is a doll....only dengar cant see it...

What about the Beverly Hills 90210 dolls that were released? Those were already pre-defined with the likeness of the characters on the show. I remember Saved by the Bell and Blossom dolls, too. They fit that description.

There's a gray area (as with all things). Those figure lines you mentioned used the likenesses of the tv characters, but you could buy different outfits, accessories, etc. for them that had nothing to do with the source materials.

Basically a doll line that used the likenesses to sell.

Barbie is an example of another gray area.

A doll line that tries to sell to non-doll collectors by putting Barbie into the clothes of characters from movies, tv, etc.

My opinion is, you dont have to calll them dolls. It's perfectly acceptable to call them 1/6 figures, or action figures. but fact remains they are still dolls. Thats it. :emperor

That's my point exactly. I make a distinction in my mind that there is a difference. So somone else applying a label to them doesn't change the distinction.

theyre Dolls.

my best bud takes jabs at me all the time by talking about my "doll collection". it doesnt bother me at all so I just always go with the flow when he does. To the point that when I talk about any collectible I have its referred to as a doll.
The other day he said "OK I cant talk trash as much anymore, I ordered my first doll. The T-800 Bust"

its just funny that I dont mind calling every piece in my collection a doll whether its a Prop, statue or in fact a doll and some hate it when theyr dolls are called dolls when thats exactly what they are.

Many, many collectibles and toys use the likenesses to sell, hence why SSC's Star Wars figures are sculpted to look like the actors/actresses. And there's been discussion before over the desire to have more accessories to go with the Star Wars line, if I remember correctly. And I think I recall a Buffy clothing line being mentioned, too.

Hey, Josette. True, but my point is that lines like the 90210 and Saved by the Bell only have the likeness and names of the characters. The accessories and clothes that are offered are generic items that have no link to the series.

SST does have likenesses to characters from movies - but they also continue to adhere to the source material with every item that they release in that line. So the accessories they provide continue the vision and image of the source material. You won't find SST offering a windsail and jetski set for Buffy - for example - because they know that fans of the show wouldn't buy it (unless those items had a direct link to the storyline or the characters).

okay dolls they are :)

Was thinking of Wai Lyn (got her and went back in the box immediately)

but some of them are MPPF :

Mini Posable Premium Formats, not?

Like the Invisible man exclusive or Robocop

I also find the 1/6 scale perfect - and the figures are getting more and more detailed

I personally like to think of them as action figures, sounds more masculine sounding. Thinking of there, here's a big machine
