Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

At the moment. But I'm very, very particular at what I buy. In my own way I'm pretty strict to certain licenses. Just main character my three favorite licenses. Batman,Terminator,Star Wars.Things have gotten so expensive I really don't know how much longer I can, or even care to, keep up. The 1/4 stuff has been tempting but I have to draw the line somewhere. That new Batman is $500. Think about that for a second. The new Terminator is $300. Its the first regular sized figure to hit that mark and it ain't getting any better. Even the low end stuff that I used to indulge myself with has gotten out of control. The new Black series SW line are $20 a pop. The 3 3/4 inch line are $9-$10. So yeah, I'm buying waaay less. I've become quite picky.

I keep talking about how I'm limiting myself and yet I'm still spending a ****ing fortune. Conveniently there's a lot of 'must haves' at the moment. But by sometime next year I'll have them, pay them off. I'm sure some other things will trickle in but not at this intensity that they are right now. I'm looking forward to that almost as much as getting DX13. Being clear of this big spending spree.

Great work per usual OMG
Just not enough interest in that outfit for the character.

Same here. The DX13 is a "grail" piece in the true sense of the word and it's one of the last on my list of "must haves". I don't have anything else on PO. Things will slow down for me tremendously I think. I think Im going to pick up the '66 figures. They just look like too much fun and they're colorful.Only other must haves are PS T-800 and a few others. The only other thing that could cause me start getting back into spending full swing is if someone picked up a Game of Thrones 1/6 license. I'd go crazy. I've been a huge fan of the books for a long time, it's a dream license. The thing is, because of the prices I don't know if I'd be overjoyed or depressed. :lol

This is a great looking figure. Next Sideshow coupon that goes out I'll probably re-order him.

Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

By the way, what is it about Joker that HT never gives him a ball-joint head? Neither the Ledger or Jack versions get them. And considering that some people seem to think they're so important why don't I see people complaining about this and saying that its a statue?

For me, both neck styles have important up- and downsides. I care a lot about realism and keeping exposed joints to an absolute minimum, so in that case the sculpted neck as you prefer would make more sense naturally.
However, I also spend a lot of time futzing and posing trying to get just the right pose, and the added neck articulation with a separate neck helps you get nuances in poses that are simply not possible with a sculpted neck, even when not going for the extreme "puppy" look. At the end, it comes down to personal preference for each figure for me.

I definitely agree that Arnold figures such as the DX10 should have had a sculpted neck, because his neck is so vital to his look. So for him, the visuals would take precedence over the added posing possibilities. Now that you mention Joker, I think I would actually prefer my DX11 Joker to have a separate neck though, to allow for better posing. His pronounced jawline and hair would cover the neckline sufficiently, if the neck were made specifically for it. I still have a spare DX11 head that I wanted to customize anyway, now you've given me an idea. :lol

What the biggest problem so far with separate necks is, in my view, is that the necks are not made specifically for the head. Ideally, when having a separate neck, it should be sculpted along with the head, to keep the accuracy and compatibility as high as possible and have a natural flow from jaw to neck. That of course would be easier for some (Joker) than for others (Schwarzenegger).

So long story short, sculpted or separate necks haven't been exclusion criterias for me so far in figures as I see benefits in both, but ideally I would like some to change to best suit my (personal) needs and preferences.

Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

^great post, thanks for that.

Yeah basically I wish they'd quit it with the ball joints for Arnold figures at least. As you say they still aren't making the bodies (and necks) specific enough for the actors/characters - I'd include Bane in that. And DX10's neck, not only does it not look like Arnie's neck, it is flat-out inhuman. And that has become the new standard muscle body so any large character you wish to build is going to be burdened with this stupid looking monstrosity of a neck.

I realise I go on about this a lot. I suppose I just hope it'll catch on and more people will complain about this. Eventually HT will focus on this area as something that needs improving not just for Arnold figures but a character like Bane. Tom Hardy had a distinctive physique, a generic body doesn't work. And as for ball-joint heads, if you're gonna insist on them then do it properly, make sure it looks as natural as it can. DX10 is the most poorly executed example I've seen at high end. Its a sad state of affairs when NECA's Dutch figure looks more natural than HT's attempt.

And a reminder of why the **** I'm talking about this in here - it was having noticed that this Joker does not have a ball-joint neck, and looks all the better for it.

Not much you can do with this guy, but the sculpt is ridiculous.

However, when they eyes are looking down, it makes me very uncomfortable due to how it makes him look so wide eyed.

Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

Other than the PERS making this, technically a DX, this should NOT be considered a DX. No extra HS, very little accessories. This should have been released as a TF Exclusive. I just don't see this selling well,(time will tell), but I am more than happy with the other, more iconic look. Just my 2C.

Great pictures as always, OMG!!!

Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

Nothing makes a DX besides PERS and foam inserts. They've ranged so drastically in accessories that there is no standard. This Mime Joke, while an out of left field release and a bit of a head scratcher, is just as much a DX as anything else.

And besides that, I think the whole " this isnt a DX!, shoulda been a TF EX, FAIL!!!!!!!" posts have ran there course. :lol Yeah, its its weird and out of left field but these posts arent saying anything profound. The main thead is filled with them.

Yup. If this was a Toy Fair or a show exclusive, I guarantee it would have been $224-$230.

So my question is, who cares if it's a DX or not? If it was an MMS, it would still cost the same price, right? Every recent regular MMS figure has been $200+ except for Robin.

Atleast the PERS eyes don't look terrible.

Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

Yep I don't get the bickering about if this is DX worthy or not. At the end of the day it's really just a label anyways. What matters is that the figure turned out well to those of us who want it.

About Schwarzenegger, it would be amazing if one of the skilled customizers here took the DX10 sculpt as a start, sculpted eyes on it, sculpted a neck, possibly with traps and a bit of shoulders (à la Betomatali Jason Part III), and cast it in silicone or something similar to have it be able to put on a modified HT muscular body. It would mean that the rubber neck of the body had to be cut off, but that would be worth the sacrifice.

Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

I don't think there'd be enough interest unfortunately. Most customising seems to be DC-based, specifically Ledger Joker and Bale Batman. Look at Rorywan and the cool stuff he was offering. All anyone wanted was Joker mods. For some reason Batman fans are uniquely obsessive as a group moreso than any other. Terminator only has a small few who aren't as happy with some of the figures as we'd like to be.

Which is funny because I remember when he posted those awesome mods he did to Indy everyone was begging him to do their own .

I don't know, there were a lot of people expressing interest in CREGcustoms Terminator sculpts, even after the DX10 was released. Of course, people always drop off when it comes to actually having to pay for something, but for a small run of approx. 10 heads, that should be doable. Especially if the quality is there.
Now if I had more sculpting experience, or even a little bit of casting experience, I might try my hand on it, but that's too big of a project for a novice like me. Somebody skilled and passionate about Terminator is needed.

Heh. Reminds me of this new young music generation that crave Miley Cyrus and Bieber but laugh and diss Queen.

Yeah but there again what overtook the Arnie heads Dean was doing? Bale sculpts, Ledger sculpts, Cowl sculpts. The Arnie heads seem to be off the radar now.

Its not lost on me by the way that I've pretty much become what you and I used to exchange PMs complaining about - all this modding and customs business. And now I'm saying that the stock Terminator figures aren't good enough and need to be modded. :slap Somewhere along the line little flaws became big flaws for me. I now speak from a standpoint of envy that ****in DC gets all the great customising & modding attention.

Re: <> DX14 THE JOKER - MIME VERSION - OMG Photo Review <>

I wonder what percentage are into Terminator vs Nolan Batman. As it's 1984 - 91 vs 2005 - 2012 as thats where all the young-ins interests are. Bet it's the old farts thats only into Terminator. After all, don't most slag it?
