I don't think anyone (or at least not many people) are saying he's a homerun... but he's also not a turd. He's a solid figure, that could have used a better arm-peg and more life-like paint job. But, most figures have some sort of short-coming (especially at $50-$60) so it's not the end of the world.

So I personally don't think he is a bad figure, but he could have been better.

I still would have (no big surprise)... anyway, even his production shot doesn't look that terrible:

Here's a question though----If they put up only pictures of the production version, and the price was the same, would you still buy it?

Yup, why not? People walked into a store and bough this POS for about the same price while it was in their hands.

What do you guys think about Sideshow offering unpainted headsculpts that can be purchased with a Buck body (of your choice) along with the clothing and accessories and shipped in a do-it-yourself box for about half the cost of the fully painted models? They could create a custom build ordering system that will allow you to choose the parts you want and you put it together and paint it yourself. I mean, really, isn't that what we're pretty much having to do anyway? The average Joe who is happy with the fully painted production models can pay full price for one of those but customizers can pick and choose and build their own for much less. What do you think?

I hadn't noticed before how much he looks like Andy Gib here.

Custom orders are too expensive, the best thing they could do is provide an unpainted head sculpt. Being able to choose the body and a do-it-yourself box would increase the price. It would be far cheaper to just provide the unpainted sculpt--smaller package size and no new product development.

I could actually see a custom setup like that costing more than the actual finished figure.

Won't happen, especially for half the price. The sculpt is the most expensive part of the figure.

It would probably never happen, but it's an awesome concept. Personally, I would love it if the money spent on paint went towards giving higher quality clothing and tailoring. Painting is relatively easy compared to making new clothes.
