Sorry to hear about your issue chris. That really sucks

Cheers Joseph. Like Bodie and the others are saying when I first took this out of the box it never quite felt right as it was very light compared with the weight of the other LSB's. It seems to me that when they paint these hollow ones they are not doing something right as the 1:1 IM bust was also hollow. The others seem to be painted by brush and this may have been done by spray gun. I like the LSB line of busts but I am now questioning whether to continue. I am checking all my others closely to see if they have the same problem and I will report back if I find any. Cheers

can you say Caca?

Caca is the word.

Or Fail CACA.

and i thought it was just because it was hollow...

BTW, just checked mine and on very close examination i would say that there is a couple of very slight cracks in the paint, so in time mine might be as bad as some of the others.
for me though as long as it doesn't get into the actually sculpted part i'm ok with it for now..

Unfortunately quad my paint is not cracking on the base. It's the brown paint on his kneck that is cracking and peeling. Which means its not just the base black paint that will peel off. The sculpted portion will be soon to follow!

And yeah...something isnt right about this bust. I felt every other bust and just by feeling them I can basically tell peeling paint will not be an issue. Either Sideshow cut corners on Sabertooth, or the factory cut corners while charging SS the same amount to increase profit. Wait...no...couldnt be...China would NEVER do that! *Cough Lead Pain on Children Toys* *Cough toxic chemical in blood thinners*

i'll now have to take a closer look at the rest of the paint on mine.:banghead

I dont care what the reasons are....none of sideshow's pieces should be hollow. Hollow is for garage kits and recasts, not for quality licensed product. F the cheap *** hollow crap.

I tend to agree with you, but Sabertooth LSB goes way beyond being hollow. I thought it was my imagination at first, but it feels like its made of paper mache!

Sabretooth Fail...I was so all over this bust when they announced it.When I heard it was hollow, I cancelled. Now I'm really glad I never bought it .Paint flaking on a bust is unacceptable quality.Sideshow Fiasco.Again.

maximum profit = minimum quality

Thats exactly right. I do wonder if it was Sideshow's cheaping out or the factory though, since the busts after Sabertooth have all been back to better quality.

If it was Sideshow they will fall victem to the same cycle as other greedy companies. Lower quality to increase profit. Less people buy because of lower quality so they cut more corners to regain profits. Again fewer people buy, so quality drops again and so on and so on until the company folds. When, if they would have just kept quality HIGH and even increased price slightly they would just remain on top!

Question:
This bust has been out for a while though, why are these issues only being reported now? Are they all flaking after a certain amount of time? How long has it been so we can closely monitor our other pieces.

Well I know half of the answer to this question was that many, only inspected or never inspected the pieces and were put to storage and left in their boxes. Not until more incidents started to rise did most of us started to look their busts more closely...

If paint doesnt adhere properly to the application surface (bad primer, incompatible material, bad paint, dirty surface during application) the paint drys and forms a cohesive coating that is essentially sticking to itself in a solid sheet around the surface. Once the paint starts to age the solidity/integratiy of the paints lattice work bond to itself starts to decay and form cracks and eventially peel.

Actually I would say the majority of collectors display thier pieces and did inspect them upon reciept. This issue wasnt visable initially. You could have gone over the bust with a fine tooth comb 100 times when it was new and not have noticed an issue (other then it fealt cheap). Only time reveals issues like this.

I think that is the first indication. If something feels cheap whether it be hollow and light as a feather, or some other reason...it is probably a good indication that it 'is' cheap. This is mainly the reason I am against hollow statues especially ones that cost upwards of $300. I mean if they can't even make a solid statue, you have to wonder what other methods they are using to cut costs or maximize profit etc.

This is the part that is truly scary. Who knows what other looming problems are awaiting us down the road:(

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought whenever they "only inspected" and really didn't pay too much attention since they were not aware of the certain problems with these busts. Not until you actually know to look for a problem will most damages appear.

Same thing with the IM 1:1 bust, not many were spotted with the paint flaking until a few months down the road.

I have my main monsters. I think I am going to stay away from 1:1 for a little while and wait for this to clear up. If I had a vader 1:1 pre-ordered right now, I would be very very nervous...

whether a bust is hollow or not has nothing to do with the paint flaking ... ..
it could be a timeline thing, where they starting something different with the paint coincidentally at the same time hollow LSBs started showing up.
some of SS's pieces have been hollow for a long time back.... off the top of my head the first Hellboy 1:1 bust comes to mind.
