Me too. Would he want people ogling his suffering?

I think the respectful thing to do if you were there when he was being scourged would be to look away, not get out your telephoto lens and focus on the wounds for 10 minutes.

Same thing with when they drove the nails through his hands.

Never understood the Catholic obsession with suffering.

It instills fear.... fear that you can take with you for the rest of your life that then manifests itself as guilt which you can then experience every time you masturbate in your parents bathroom as a teen or bounce a check at the grocery store as a 30 something.... It's great. Once I find more crap I blame myself for I will be sure to post it here as to keep everyone updated.

While they're at it, maybe a Buddy Christ PF?

The bitter irony here is if we were talking about any other religion, panties would be twisting. :lol

That's because protestants are taught to be fixated on the comic book super hero Jesus in his resurrected form, which pretty much defeats the entire purpose of him being here as a flesh & blood human and enduring the passion.

There is a reason the film starts with Isaiah 53:5...

he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

It's not an obsession over the suffering... it's a reminder of what one person may have selflessly done for you. Ever heard of "Catholic Guilt"? What do you think that spawns from?

Sorry to get all theological on here, but this has always been a testy spot for me, especially having been raised Catholic in the heart of the southern Bible belt. I'm surrounded by Baptist Fundies on a daily basis who question my faith without understanding it at all.

Well, I was going for 'weird and twisted' but the guilt factor is debilitating.... For example, my wife and I invited my parents over for Easter this year but but my mom doesn't want to come over even though it means not spending the holiday with her grandson. She then tells me this "don't worry about us Richie.... Your father and I always knew we'd be alone for holidays one day. When you have son's you just accept that fact.".... WTF? They choose to stay at home yet they make me feel guilty about it? Just goofy ass Italian Catholic crap... It just makes people crazy.

Feeling guilt for your sins I can deal with.... having guilt used as a tool for manipulation, not so much.

No body ____s with Jesus. You point a gun at him and he will take it from you and pull the trigger until it goes click.

Oh wait! We are talking about a different Jesus. :lol

Pfft! My Mom's as Catholic as they come and she's always been cool and down-to-Earth. My family aren't zealots stuck in the Inquisition. In fact, we're all about partying, drinking and having a good time. The problem comes from individuals, not the faith itself.

Could I please retract my mention of a specific faith?

Well good for you.... Maybe that also comes from being Irish and not Italian? My point is this, guilt is a nasty weapon that can be used to influence ones decision making process. I've grown to dislike it, personally.

That's Italian for, "We hate your wife" (which really isn't that funny at all). :lol

Try and bribe her with Michael Buble tickets. :dunno
