Inappropriate posts deleted, infractions dispensed.

I know the original poster was trying to cause problems with this thread (as usual), but this was a license that Sideshow pursued at one time at least for a DVD pack-in.

Pfft! My Mom's as Catholic as they come and she's always been cool and down-to-Earth. My family aren't zealots stuck in the Inquisition. In fact, we're all about partying, drinking and having a good time. The problem comes from individuals, not the faith itself.

You just described my family. No guilt here, just focusing on the good.

Hmmm... I wonder why this thread is still open. Not exactly what I want to read in a collectibles forum.

Jeez Dave, lighten up. What problems was I trying to cause?

Don't think he meant you King.

By "original poster" I think he meant the user who started the thread. When I saw the thread title and saw who started it (V!C) I figured it was just for trolling purposes. Was still a fun discussion none-the-less. :)

[P.S. KD, your post didn't bother me. :D]

Umm, no. For the reasons I have stated...

Jesus wouldn't have wanted you to look away unless the sight was harmful to you. I think he would have wanted you to bear witness to the suffering he endured so that you would be fully aware of the price he paid for your sins.

That said, this is drama, and the point isn't to depict history. The point is to present a conflict for purposes of contemplation, and it presented the man's intransigence in the face of total brutality extremely well. I don't believe Jesus is the Son of God, or that his actions were particularly virtuous. They were awe inspiring, though, and this movie was awesome.

All this talk about Catholic guilt and all I can think of is how bad the guilt is coming off of a Jewish mother! :horror

People love to bash Catholicism. They seem to have blinders on when it comes to every other major religion on earth. They're all based on the guilt of being human (i.e. less than God) and they all deserve the same charge of being anti-human.

I would just like to add a little nugget in here to the discussion of the violence depicted in the film, and if it was over the top or too extreme. If someone is a Christian or not, doesn't really matter in terms of the source material, according to the Bible, in order for Jesus to be the Messiah, prophecy had to be fullfilled, and the Old testament prophecy that describes the events make it clear that the Messiah would be beaten so that you couldn't even make out his face, and one wouldn't even be able to tell he was a man. So if in fact Jesus was the Messiah, the film was probably a little lite on the violence and what he would have really looked like. Just sayin'.

Hmm, that's news to me. :dunno

Be curious to see the reference.

Isaiah 52:14-15 But many were amazed when they saw him. His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man. And he will startle many nations. Kings will stand speechless in his presence. For they will see what they had not been told; they will understand what they had not heard about."

He did it out of love. He was not a sadist, nor a masochist. And he would not "get off" on having people ogle his suffering anymore than he would get off on ogling ours.

His friends and mother would have been severely pained at seeing the violence. If I was in the presence of a close friend or family member being tortured I would look away as a reflex, and not only out of respect.
