I'm not a LOTR expert but i do enjoy it alot.

"your love for the halflings leaf has clearly slowed your mind"

My woman seems convinced that it gets you altered or baked or whatever. And i tell her it's just good tobacco as it's referred to in the books. Then she points me to the scene in TT where merry and pippin are laughin and gigging after Saurmans defeat etc. and i'm stumped.

Do hobbits catch a buzz from it? Is it just tobacco?

Well I like to think it's not tobacco. :) Because a little mary j is so much more fun than a cancer stick.

It's obvious the hobbits are buzzed - whether that is from the "pipe weed" or the ale I'm not really sure. But they are rather hungry and do seem to be having a jolly ol' time. :D

Ah you'll have to have a look at the books.Theres even a chapter called Concerning Pipeweed.

Its referred to as tobacco but obviously with it being a weed you can only imagine the effect it has on those little fellas.:D

its just tobacco :lol:lol:lol i think  unless the little hobbits really are puffing the magic dragon :naughty:naughty

Yeah in the book it's tobacco but the movies put an intoxicant slant on it. Does anyone remember the dvd commentary when PJ says they were concerned about showing smoking to the New Line producers for obvious reasons... they weren't bothered at all! In fact, they were more concerned with other little things like "does Bill the pony makes his way home safely after they let him go at Moria"?!?? :lol

I Remember when I was in the Cinema together with my wife watching FotR. There was a scene where Gandalf was smoking his Pipe. I said to my wife "look they are smoking weed ...".

Suddenly 3 guys were turning their heads around staring at me. They were 3 Policemen from my Town ...

yes it's just tobacco in the books. anything else would have been against tolkien’s character. if you ever read his bio he was a very devout catholic. plus he knew kids would be reding this book so even if it fit in to his mythology for middle earth i still don't think he'd have it as anything other then tobacco.

I doubt he even knew what marajuana was when he wrote LOTR. :lol

The Beatles didn't even know what marajuana was until 1964.

didnt tolkien smoke a pipe aswell ??? thats probably why he included it so much in the stories. only smokers can know the qualities of smoking :lol

i don't know. i mean i think i remember a part in the books where merry couldn't find his pipe so pippin said "here try my steamroller." i also thought there was a chapter where sam's pipe got broken so he converted the shaft into a one-hitter. but i could be mistaken. it's been awhile since i read it.

I haven't heard the word "steamroller" in that context in quite a while.

I wonder if they still make those? Time to cruise to the head shop :monkey3
