And I thought they worked great as a plot device.




Because Angelica wants here father's soul to be saved.

There is actually a message in this movie about faith that I really liked. I absolutely loved it when the Spanish showed up and destroyed the "pagan temple" because only God can grant eternal life. The presence of the missionary and his lines, were part of this tone.

I actually think this is the first Pirates film to have a message. The nice thing is that the message is not pushed down your throat, so you can ignore it if you want. For my part, it added a lot to the film and actually would be the reason for a second viewing.




He is pretty damn unloveable I have to admit. But who of us doesn't want to believe that even the worst of their family can be redeemed?

I swear, every movie that mentions god, or faith, you just love....


I dont go to these flicks to have a religious message thrown at me...I want fun. Blackbeard sucked, and I hope his soul rots for wasting my ____ing time.

I know, I think it would've showed how cruel he could be if he had beheaded the missionary. Maybe tortured the Mermaid? Anything other than that lame-ass weenie roast we got to see.

I'm kind of wondering if that character was there just as a remnant from the original story they made this from.

Otherwise, his only purpose was to get the mermaid to cry which is a horrible reason for him to exist.

Pretty much. Keep that crap in the churches, and out of my action movies. I didn't pay for a sunday morning at church.

Shows how serious the movie seemed to me, I didn't even read into the line that way, I just took it as Jack looking out for Syrena's survival for the ritual.

Also i kinda didnt like some of the new character's I want the eyeball and the hey pumpet guy back. Angelica was ok but I liked elizabeth better.
