Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Even though it's rough, that's an excellent start. Well done.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Cant wait to see the finished product WG! Gotta say she already looks better in the pirate outfit.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thank you very much, guys!

I hesitated even posting the "before" pic because it's so rough, but I figure it will be fun to show how she improves. Finished stitching the pants for a better fit -- her lower half looks good now. The real work begins with fixing the shirt and vest. That's for tomorrow.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Be sure to post lost of pictures of the progress WG!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well, I actually got around to stripping Swann of her AWE outfit today just to try a very rough TEST of the outfit parts I've collected to build the DMC outfit.

Here's a pic of the TEST, no futzing, just thrown on:

I have a lot of work to do now: a lot of stitching and sewing to get that outfit more fitted, some painting, some dying of course, and adding all the correct buttons. The scabbard belt is incorrect, just there to get an idea.

Coming along very nicely my friend, congrats. While tedious, I think the steps ahead for you should be doable.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Wow! Wor-Gar that looks really great! I think I would've been more inclined to buy Elizabeth had she been in her pirate getup.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks again for all the support!

She's gonna look a lot better after the work.

It's a fairly easy bash once you have all the pieces...although I wasn't counting on quite so much sewing. The female HT body is alot slimmer than I anticipated. But the pirate boots do solve the height problem, as they're taller than the little black AWE boots, so no leg surgery is necessary for her. Still have to remove the extenders off Jack though as per Kingdarkness' tutorial to lower him relative to Davy.

In this bash with Swann and eventually Turner, I want to try and solve the height differential on the Pirates figures.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I did the leg surgery on both Cannibal Jack, AWE Jack and Will Turner. They look much better in height comparison to other characters now.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

This is the version of Elizabeth I wished Hot toys had made as well. Can you PM me a parts list Wor-gar?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks everyone!

I never post parts until I'm certain they work -- don't want anyone to waste time or money. For example, the vest I'm using doesn't bleach -- I just discovered that today -- so I may need to find an alternative, first I'm gonna dye it anyway just to see what happens since I got the pot boiling already. :(

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Hmmm.. Have you tried Rit color remover?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

What's your method for changing the vest color, are you dying it?

I would think if you could get some brown pain and make a mix of paint and water and soak the vest with that it would change the color, it's a grey vest right, it looks that way in the photo.

I've had little or no success with Rit color remover in the past, but perhaps its an option. Usually if bleach doesn't work, Rit CR won't either. The material is very thin so I run the risk of it getting eaten away at this point. Unfortunately I guess the material is one of those weird types that just doesn't bleach.

I'm dying now, so I'll have to see what I got when it dries.

Thanks for the advice though! :)

That paint trick works to a point, but the material gets very thick if you have to saturate it -- kind of like cardboard when it dries. It works great for dirt, etc, but not so good for changing complete colors.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It is probably all synthetic and was chemically dyed.

Yeah, definitely that's the case.

It won't fade at all.

I've dyed it, and the blue/grey parts have come out a muddy brown/brick color. It's still drying, so perhaps it will lighten a bit... but it's not looking good.

EDIT: it's drying out, and pretty much looking like a lighter version of the above. Oh well, on to plan B... :)

Well, the vest failed... but the shirt came out successfully...

A little ironing, a lot of stitching to get it to fit that slim body, even added some tassels to the cuffs. Pants got tailored too.

So she's ready for her vest. Gotta work that out still, but I think someone has come to my rescue.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

You could try the Medicom Jack clothes on Elizabeth? The clothes are smaller and tighter, so may fit her body much better. In fact, I do have the Medicom Jack, so I might try it myself.
