Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

You could try the Medicom Jack clothes on Elizabeth? The clothes are smaller and tighter, so may fit her body much better. In fact, I do have the Medicom Jack, so I might try it myself.

Yeah, Ashton16 had done this version with the Medicom Jack clothing and it looks pretty good. I don't have the Medicom, nor did I want to pay the price for it just to bash...but still the clothing needs some work to look right. The Medicom pants still need to be dyed, the shirt will still need stitching for accurate fit, and the Medicom vest still requires bleaching and dying, besides pulling out the threads on all the eyelets and lastly the vest is too small to close on the Swann body so it must be left open.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well, the vest failed... but the shirt came out successfully...

A little ironing, a lot of stitching to get it to fit that slim body, even added some tassels to the cuffs. Pants got tailored too.

So she's ready for her vest. Gotta work that out still, but I think someone has come to my rescue.

Looks great so far.

What clothes were you using for the bash?

Thanks King!

Here's one with more light:

What you see above is the HT Jack pants and boots and the Zizzle Jack shirt. Once fitted and futzed, I think they work very well for the slightly oversized, boyish look she had in that outfit. Of course, once the vest is on, all you'll really see is the arms and legs.

Actually, the shadow behind her almost gives you a better idea of how the clothing sits on her scale-wise.

I was planning on using a re-fitted Zizzle vest as well, but as you can see from my earlier posts, the vest just won't accept dye. Too bad, because I had spent a couple hours stitching it so it would fit her right, all for nothing. Anyway, I hope to have a solution on that soon, with some help.

The rest of her gear will be cobbled from parts -- as I said before, I hate giving total recipes out until I have the whole thing worked out, like if I had recommended the Zizzle vest to everyone and then found out it didn't work. Best I get it right first.

The next big thing, after the vest of course, if finding a suitable scabbard belt -- she has a very wide ostrich skin belt. That will most likely have to be built.

Looking really good WG!

That zizzle sirt looks surprisingly well made.

Awesome WG, you seem to be on a mission from God :lol

What's your opinion on the headsculpt. I see Elizabeth in the pics I've come across but it hasn't come across as a home-run, though. A triple maybe... ;)

The Zizzle shirt IS very well made. It's very oversized too, so it requires a lot of stitching and sewing to fit the spindly Swann -- bring in the shoulders, slim the arms, shorten the cuffs, etc. But I like the texture and weight of the material -- very light, very thin, and crimped in a way that allows you to shape the nice ballooning at her forearms.

That makes me think of the Blues Brothers. :)

But yeah, this is one of those projects I've been obsessing about for many months, so I'm eager to try and get her to look as close as possible to what HT would have done.

Yeah, it's definitely Eliz, but it's not a homerun in terms of HT's best sculpts. The hair's a bit odd too. But it's the only Eliz Swann out there right now.

But Mindbook did a repaint that looks EXACTLY like Swann, so the sculpt is there. He also added real hair which makes an insane difference.

But I gotta use what's available, plus with the little pirate hat on most of the 'probelms' aren't as apparent. But I certainly wouldn't be opposed to an upgrade down the line.

Just a quick BEFORE and AFTER to see what I did to the shirt:

I feel like if the hair were done differently and better, the sculpt would probably rank as one of HT's best, but the "wig" method just really hurts the overall look, plus the way the hair was done in general could be better. The face on the portrait and the costuming saved this figure, both very well done, if either'd been iffy, that mixed with the hair would make it passable.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks for the info, guys. I did see the likeness there as well but something was throwing things a bit off. I think you guys are correct regarding the hair.

Fantastic job on the outfit, Wor-Gar!!! :rock

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

fantastic job! i wish i could sew so i could get that outfit right. i hava medi jack sitting around so i'll see if i can get it to work well enough on her but yours is looking top notch

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Bumping this thread up because I'll be getting "Cannibal Jack" soon thanks to my bud, Allan (Agent23). :rock

Also was able to obtain a loose hat and the stand from the first Jack Sparrow figure so that I can display him non-cannibal and have the appropriate base as well.

Quick question: Will cannibal Jack fit comfortably in a Detolf shelf? I ask because of that tall hat he wears.

I think it should, I believe other people have had PF's in the Detolf's so it should fit any 1/6th figures fine

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Good question on the Cannibal hat -- never thought of the detolf problem. But no one's said anything yet.

Congrats on getting C-Jack! He's truly awesome, probably the best in the line really... even though Davy's my personal fav.

If the hat poses a problem, you might try Kingdarkness' leg extender removal to drop tall Jack down almost an inch. I haven't done it yet, but I plan to as soon as I muster the courage to undo all the belts and sash that I got so perfect the first time around (after like an hour).

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Why would you have to undo Jack's belt, etc. to pull off the extenders?

Do they just pull out?

I thought I had to do leg surgery to get them off, thus the pants would have to come off, thus the belts, etc.

Either way, he'd get all UN-futzed in the process.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks, Wor-Gar. I have a feeling that one I have the figure in hand, I'm going to break down and get at least Davy, in order to have them squared off against each other.

Will look into that leg extender bit as well. Thanks for the info.

As far as I know, you can just slide his pants up to expose the end and then you just pull/snap off the extenders at the bottom of the calves, should be able to do it without undoing him.

I'll try it on Cannibal Jack first, as he's still not completely put together.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah Sean, just slide up the pants.

Damn WG, you are always looking for a reason to get your figures pants off :lol

:D

So what's the deal exactly -- does the extender have to be broken or snapped off? You don't really need that 'ball' thing at the end to pop into the boots right?
