What's all this talk about 'completing the collection journey' and 'then I'm done'? :rotfl
You guys do realise there's always another awesome piece on the horizon :slap
I hate what's going on with issues, poor QC, open and high ES but I know once your in it's hard to get out.

Ha ha! Actually this isn't my only hobby. I have many others that cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. So I intend to move on eventually. :peace

My hobbies "World Traveler", and "Happy Wife" can be very pricey. So like you I will be moving on. I will still be a Freak, but not buying lol.

I have had lots of obsessions in my lifetime. I never stop liking whatever it was that I was collecting, but I always...eventually...move on to something else.

So, down the line, maybe soon (like, in the next year or two), I will stop buying statues. I have 7 on preorder right now. I don't see myself ordering 7 more next year. I have already calmed down about nearly all of the comic con reveals, and don't see myself po'ing very many of those at all.

There are a few "must have" characters on my list, and even when I am "out", I will continue to keep an eye on what is being released...just in case my dream comes true.

I'm not gonna say I'll totally quit, but I'm already at a point that I probably only buy 2 or 3 statues a year if that now. One thing I've learned in this hobby that I honestly never had before while collecting is, discipline. So when this ride is over I will have walked away a better collector then when I started.

I agree it's had to get out completely unless you unload your entire collection. On the other hand, I'm finding it easy to slow down. I have money but not enough where I can buy everything indiscriminately. I will prob sell a piece every now and again to fund a new purchase. The higher prices are definitely making me more selective. I think in the future my POs will drop to one or two a year.

The only way to "get out" is to sell everything. :nana:

But I just bought something ... Lol

His is kind of me, but MAYBE one or two POs every 5 years or so. It will be a "mostly" retired situation... Lol.

More "quit" talking on this thread too? I think that this hobby is something that's really hard to walk away from. For years I've told myself if I got an Apocalypse Sideshow piece I would be happy and could stop for a while. But now that he is almost here, I find myself thinking I will need a Sideshow Archangel to go with him. Then I start thinking about a Cable PF. They will never release me from the matrix :panic:

Pretty much have my marvel collection finalized. It's really nice to be able to slow down the tempo a bit and look forward to our future releases as opposed to scouring the universe for older prints. One thing I have learned is you can't have it all. I've converted most of my Bowen collection into SS 1/4 scale and that trend will continue. I'm at a point where the only funds I use to purchase are being wired from my PayPal account from statue sales. More recycling now then investing personal funds into the hobby. It's hard to speculate "the end" with so many great sculpts on the horizon... Jean Grey is an absolute must have for me.. D/C has so much already on PO and there's still A list characters that haven't even surfaced yet! Deathstroke, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Flash, Lex Luthor (hopefully fully armored), Catwoman.. You get the just.. I don't know how many are just going for Supes and Bats but this line will most certainly keep me roped in for the inevitable and long future of releases ahead.... Oh how about Hulk? Almost done? Silly friends! We're all doomed! Oh yeah Dr. Doom anyone? Haha

I'm glad that I don't have such deep knowledge of many characters. Makes passing on them easy and keeps money in the bank to boot.

I'm actually getting to the point where I might sell a few pieces from a line because I'm not crazy about specific characters. I am a huge fan of the x-men but I could prob do without a couple of those that I own. I regret not getting snake eyes and storm shadow comis. So I may start picking a few from each line that I just have to have. And buying multiples of a character might be out for me. That being said I may break that rule just for hulk!

This is where I'm at after 10 years of doing this.

Why did my comment of $600 x 3000 = $1.8 million get deleted. Whatever. I keep myself entertained by poking at the oversensitive

My LCS have some good deals IF you know where to look, BUT there are several that automatically throw in an $150 markup, thatnou can haggle off so you think you are getting a deal...lol. There is even one that has two damaged statues, a Storm and a Skaar, that they are selling at a minimum markup of $130....:rotfl

I'm on the 8 monther too, but I've got one payment in the books

6 monther with one payment in the books. Since they're making around a mill and a half on thisthey sshould put a tiny little effort in for us and display how many are sold and how many are left.

Me and my buddy at work are always talking about the edition size and multiplying it by how much the piece cost. Of course both of us are clueless as to how much it cost to produce the statute it's just fun to see the numbers and guess how much ss is profiting.

You can expect that if they are charging $600, then they are clearing about $250-300 per statue once all is said and done with paying for the design (amortized), the factory cost per unit, the shipping cost per unit and the overall business expense to sell them. If they weren't making at least that then they wouldn't sell it. A LCS I think pays 75 or 80% of retail, so they will pay $450-480 and clear $120-150 per statue. Less if they have to pay shipping (locals here go pick up their orders). That's a big part of the reason you see immediate markups on these at LCSs, bc SS wants to sell direct to you, they have jacked up the wholesale price so the profit margin for other retailers is small, like 20% where it used to be 30%.

I got this info from a retailer, btw.

Another guy told me that based on cost, for an east coast company selling something like the 89 Batmobile at retail, with it's extremely high shipping cost, the profit margin is VERY slim. Smaller, relatively cheaper 1/6 figures probably have a much better profit potential once all is said and done than these giant statues.

Separately, my NDR is today or tomorrow, and my first flex payment is in 5 days, so I'm on track for April... Is Sideshow? Lol
