Hey not sure if anyone is interested but I have an extra Launch PS4 I would be willing to let go of for a nice statue or two :)

Probably both. That's how it's been with pretty much all new console releases. Even the Wii U had a ton of sales when it came out last year. Though past console releases were restrained by how many consoles they could produce and they're making more available this time around. It's likely though that we won't find out until after Christmas how popular the consoles really are. Until then, if they are on shelves they will probably sell really quick. If you want one though you can preorder, it won't be a launch console but you could get one after the launch when they restock.

I've done many console launches and camped out in the past. Fun times but I'm not camping out anymore. Amazon FTW. Oh the fun of tracking down PS2s, PS3s, 360s, and Wiis. I remember when the N64 launched you could buy the system but you couldn't find any games. TRU was buying games back at retail just to have some to sell to other people.

I always wondered if they shorted launch systems to create more demand.

They manage it in some way, but last console launches all of the consoles sold out and they could have sold more if they had more production. The ideal situation is to sell as many consoles as people want without having any extra, but they would rather sell more consoles over having the idea that it's so popular that it's sold out.

That's possible, rumors are though that they're going to be pushing more in the U.S. which is why they aren't launching in Japan until next year so that they can get more inventory to the U.S.

I'm still shocked Japan aren't getting there's until after the States, Europe & Oz. I wonder how that went down over there as I've always grown up envying them getting everything way before the rest of the world

They kind of have to. If they run out in the rest of the world come late nov/dec many people will buy whata available for the holidays, and before they didn't have to complete with another brand new system. They have Japan locked up so this won't hurt the sales there.
