Who says they aren't already taking a loss. Sony is not trying to have a repeat of last time where it takes years to start to see a profit. I agree they will have 1tb version next year at some point but that will have been another year and 1tb prices will have also dropped, along with all the other components.

I assume they are taking a loss already. Im ok with that. This is all moot anyway as a tb version wasnt made at launch.

Got mine paid off and ready to go on Friday. Already got Killzone and ACIV. Kind of funny how excited I am after not even being interested until I stumbled into one three weeks ago.

As far as the HD goes, like someone said earlier, unless you have 10 or more games you're playing at once, it should be a non issue. At least they're giving you the option of putting any HD you want in there if you need to. You can get up to 1.5 TB, and I doubt anyone would need more than that.

So any of you lucky peeps in the US had there shipping notice yet? I noticed there's guys over Neogaf showing of there shipping info

There's been a lot of concern about the HD capacity.
Is it necessary to install PS4 games to the HD for gameplay?
What advantages are there to installing a game? Decreased load times maybe?

Yes, you have to install all games, it won't play the game directly off the disc. The reason is it allows them to load files faster, probably will help games start faster and allows them to load things during gameplay faster. Though of course you won't notice a difference since no one's seen it loaded of the disc.
The console though allows you to start playing the game after a certain amount of the game is installed, it will continue to copy the files to the disc while you are playing. So it will only be a few minutes at the most that you'd have to wait before you can start playing for the first time.

Thanks for clearing that up for me darthviper! :hi5:
Has there been mention that the Xbox One games will have to be installed as well?

At least with the One the games seem to be about the size id expect. Im not sure why the ps4 games are so gigantic.

I'd like to take advantage of the Target B2G1 sale this week, but reports of the PS4 having frame rate problems (CoD: Ghosts) is disconcerting. It seems the Xbox One is also having these issues (Ryse, Dead Rising 3).

Still on the fence with either console and the frame rate issues haven't made the decision any easier. :D

Just got a call from Best Buy to see if I was attending the midnight opening to pick up my pre-order! 2 days!

I think the frame rate problems a bit overblown. I've seen videos showing the hits and it's very brief moments and seems to be primarily in the campaign for some reason. My guess would again be a lack of time (or maybe care) for proper optimization and not a hardware issue.

GiantBomb is reporting that a patch may be on the way for CoD: Ghosts to resolve PS4 framerate issues:
https://www.giantbomb.com/articles/a-few-last-minute-bits-of-playstation-4-info/1100-4785/

"The early reviews of Call of Duty: Ghosts--including mine--mentioned that the PlayStation 4 version of the game suffers from occasional frame rate issues. For me, it usually showed up whenever there were a lot of particle effects on screen, but it'd pop up at random, too. I'm told that Infinity Ward is working on a patch to correct the performance issues. As our review currently doesn't apply to the PS4 version of the game--I want to play that and the Xbox One version on real multiplayer servers before assigning it a number--I'm going to see if that patch makes its way live this week and see if it helps. Currently, I'd call it a toss up between the Xbox One and PS4 versions--the Xbox One version has a smoother frame rate, but I'd rather play the game on a Dual Shock 4. Getting that frame rate pegged would definitively swing things in the PS4's direction, even over the PC version, which is sort of a mess. Of course, we're talking about minor differences in a game that has much more significant issues than mere frame rate, so you probably shouldn't take any of this as a ringing endorsement of the release without reading my review first."
