From what I understand it's an issue if you bought the game digitally, that it will have to verify even if it's a single player offline game. For games on disc it shouldn't matter. I played GTAV without problems while PSN was down.

I'll verify this. I fired up the disc version last week, and single player worked fine for me.

One virgin down.

I got a DS4 for Steam today. Overall, the controller is great. It definitely feels higher quality than the DS3, and the thumb-sticks are so responsive! One complaint, though, I've noticed that DS4's Bluetooth range is significantly shorter than the DS3's, and the signal cuts off at times. Do any of you guys notice this on your PS4s (of course, I doubt anyone here actually uses their controller 30 feet away from their console :lol)?

Oh yes, that's definitely true for the DS4, the range is shorter than the DS3. Totally slipped my mind to mention that as it's a non-issue for me and most folks. Where do you game anyway? On the balcony? :lol

i set up a projector sometimes and were that far away from it when we play ps4 and i get no drop outs..............

on a side note, im highly addicted to the hotline miami soundtrack. you guys should give it a listen, or at least play the game. for $4 you cant go wrong.

Well, my PC is in my bedroom, and I've got it hooked up to my TV that's about 25 feet away. Usually, Bluetooth signals start to degrade around 30 feet from the receiver (and distance is significantly reduced if there's wall in-between). But, I have a 10 feet USB extension cable that allows me to route my Bluetooth dongle further away from the PC. That said, I haven't had any range issues with the DS3 from anywhere in my apartment. But, the DS4 frequently stutters and loses the signal for some reason.

Not sure what the issue is. Perhaps I received a defective DS4?

You are using a DS4 with your PC. I have yet to try that, how does it play?

It works amazingly well. The thumb sticks are very responsive, and the vibration motors have varying levels of "rumble", for extremely soft noises to loud explosions. You can even use the touchpad as a fully-functioning Windows mouse! Overall, I think the DS4 is a huge improvement over the DS3, and just feels like a more expensive, and premium product when you hold it in your hands.

The DS4 isn't plug-and-play for most games, though. You'll have to download Xbox controller drivers, and remap the controller using an application called DS4tool. But, it's not as complicated as it sounds, and the setup is fairly simple.

Surprisingly, the button layouts on Xbone and PS controllers are almost identical. The only difference I've noticed, is that the L1 and R1 buttons on the PS layout have been switched with the trigger buttons (L2 and R2). However, I've found that using the trigger buttons for aiming actually feels more natural (as opposed to L1 and R1).

I'd highly recommend the DS4 for Steam and Uplay games. It sure beats a mouse and keyboard. And if you're using it with Windows, you can even deactivate the light-bar to save your battery life, which is something that you can't do on the PS4 for some reason.

Also, I finally got the Bluetooth issue resolved by removing a wire-hanger that was in the way :slap. That said, my only complaint about the DS4 is that the Bluetooth is extremely sensitive, and you can experience high latency and lags for the oddest reasons. I've never had this issue with the DS3.

Meh... better than nothing. I might pick up a few PS1 games while I'm at it.

It's still down?

I didn't try it at the time I was just mentioning that because I know it won't let you play a digital copy of the game if PSN is down.

Yeah I can verify this. A disc based game will load even when PSN is down. A digital game will not load if PSN is down because it can't verify the license. A digital game won't work when PSN is down even if you put an original disc of the game in the machine because it was installed as a digital download. :banghead

I'm not a fan of strictly owning digital games. This issue of not being able to play it when the network down only confirms my stance.

:lecture Yup. I doubt I'll continue gaming when the day comes when everything is digital only. That and I've been spending more of my time playing classic retro gaming. It's a shame that I'm re-buying and replaying all the of same games I had throughout my years as a gamer (NES to PS1 era).
