If you get desperate enough you can stop over and borrow an extra monitor I have to see if its a problem with the computer or the monitor itself. If its saying no source your monitor is not recognizing its connected to the pc. Im going to assume that you unplugged and replugged all connections. ( i didnt read through the entire thread if it was already mentioned.)

I just remembered that I can try to hook it up to my tv! :rock

Re: Please help! Keith's Compture died!

He needs a computer, not a trendy toy :lecture:lecture:lecture

That's exactly why he needs something other than a Windows toy. :lecture:lecture:lecture

BM - plug in another monitor. You should see *something* even if you got 1337 h4x0rd - there should be a quick prompt letting you know your bios loaded.

:lol I get what your saying, really. But I can't see on my monitor. I have no idea whats on the screen. :dunno

If you put in the Windows CD then turn off your computer then turn it back on if it's not a monitor problem it should at least display some of the startup stuff and then you can run the windows CD to repair when it asks to boot from the disc.

If absolutely nothing shows up when you start up the computer (like the Bios and stuff) then it's either your monitor or your video card.

My brother had a similar problem and it was his video card that was dead.

If you hear a beeping when you boot up, then your memory might be out of alignment.

I would just chuck in the windows disk and reinstall.

Well I hooked it up to my TV and seemed to have got it to work for now. Although the fan kicks on really hard in bursts and I am not even doing anything but post on here. :dunno AT least I know I don't need a monitor. LOL!

have you tried...

I'm confused. You have it hooked up to the TV and not the monitor, yet you conclude the monitor isn't broke?

As long as you have it running, make sure you right click your c: drive go to tools and run some maintenance on your drive. While you're at it, check your device manager (in control panel under system, I think) and see if any hardware is reporting an error.

Yep its officially dead. The damn thing won't even startup anymore.

Did you try the "freezing the hard drive" trick?

This ^^ put the hard drive in a plastic bag with no air and freeze it for about 24hrs, break it out and let it dry to room temperature and then plugged it into the machine and see if it will boot. Mainly this is the last resort to get most of the data off the hard drive before it craps out again. It will loosens the electrons and it causes the components to shrink which can enable the track marker to align with the tracks again one last time.

I was about to say that whenever you had it hooked up to the TV you could try F8 and select LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION and see if that fixed the driver for the video card, etc maybe other issues as well but I see know it's not even firing up...

Hope this helps and good luck, lemme know what comes out of it all... I've been doing hardware support for almost a decade and now a software engineer/code monkey developer I love hearing about these problems and fixing them, kind of like a challenge... :maul
