Dear Sideshow,

I have a $100 sideshow gift card that I can send to your (Sideshow's) IT department to put it towards a new and better server because your current server is a piece of ^^^^.

Sincerely,

nash
Care to share that $100 GC nash? :monkey3

And I totally agree, something seriously needs to be done about the servers or whatever is causing the problems on newsletter night. It's just become way too much of a hassle. :banghead

Sideshow needs to add and upgrade their servers to handle more bandwidth and quicker processing.

Well it looks like something has been finally done.

Sideshow Collectibles has been expanding its family of licenses over the past few years, and with it we have welcomed a pack of Sideshow Collectors to our ever growing, pool of cool. All the new excitement and traffic has added a few ripples of slowness for collectors during event times and newsletter night. Thus we have added two new massive, technically stellar servers, named Ripley and Thing, to help speed things along! (Please note that Ripley and Thing, although magical, can't improve your local access speed from your house to the internet.)

WOW,

It's really that easy?!?!?!

Why didn't I do this before the Galactus Bust sold out in 2 seconds flat, faster than an Enzo to 60!

:banghead:duh:banghead

If I remember correctly, there were no server issues with the Galactus Bust PPO? It was just a really fast sell-out, which we can't really do anything about (other than upping an edition size, but that would not be looked upon very well either!). But at least this should take care of any server issues - now, if people still get there before you because it sells out in 10 minutes, well... sometimes I suppose that is the very nature of the game :duff

Thanks Dusty! :monkey3 :rock

Dusty its great that the servers look like they are at last getting sorted. But what are you guys doing about QC. Will SS be making an announcment like Bowen did?

Thank you for your feedback.

Honestly, I wouldn't have any clue if what I experienced was a result of server issues, sun spot interference, or emp detonation from spying roque nations but I do know that I was refreshing the appropriate pages minutes before the 9pm Eastern announced time of sale when other members began posting their successful purchases at 8:59pm or 9pm and seconds later, it was all sold out.

So that's just it, I was there at 8:30pm waiting for the 9pm start time and refreshing like a madman before 9pm so it wasn't like I arrived to the sale at 9:10pm and am now sitting here trying to unfairly blame SS.

I'm just curious and also frustrated at what transpired.

Oh well, whatever it was, it sure was impressive to see something sell out like that, I'm just happy that it wasn't something which the EX version was a must.

Thank you

I think that it's best if you DON'T *manually* hit refresh during streamlined PPO's. The page will auto refresh itself at 10 AM. Hitting refresh excessively can mess with the process. The whole 'streamlined' system is explained here: https://www.sideshowtoy.com/?p=3516

That being said, only 150 people were able to get that exclusive, so no matter how early they arrived some were destined for failure :( If you don't get a 'time out' error or any other type of error message, the servers are totally fine, it's just a fast sell out.

That I do not know. I do know that we already work with multiple factories and our situation is a bit more complicated than Bowen's, who only works with one factory and only produces statues, nothing with fabric, mixed media, etc.

I can assure you that the guys in production and development at Sideshow take everything just as seriously as you guys do, if not more-so, since it is their original artwork! A few of them just came back from a trip overseas a couple weeks ago, so I'm sure many things were discussed at that time. Please remember that just because there is no 'official' statement doesn't mean they aren't doing things behind the scenes. Many times they are forced to choose not to make official statements, NOT because they don't want to be open with fans and collectors, but because they are worried about competitors - they've been burned in the past by revealing too much of the business and production process. It's a tough line to walk! :peace

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question and concerns.

Has it ever been considered to have a "lottery" type system. Generally the "refresh every second" strategy of first come first serve will only do bad things to a cluster of servers. If there was a short window for those who wanted a specific peice to apply to have their name in the basket, SS could randomly draw a certain number and designate their account with the ability to purchase the item.

Just my 0.02.
