The uber accurate Stormtrooper blaster power cylinders made by Andy (PlayfulWolfCub) on FISD 501st forum finally arrived. :) The details of these greeblies are simply amazing, their accuracy surpasses any other attempt in making these cool parts of an E-11. He used a real trio of capacitors, added a great accurate weathering, and even beautiful display cases and numbered COA's.

You can find out more about the long research and the work involved in making these fantastic E-11 cylinders here: E-11 Power Cylinders Research Thread - 501st First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment.

From Andy's research: "We know that these were made from some type of electronic component but, despite fans searching long and hard over the years, no-one has yet discovered exactly what they were originally used for. The most recent research suggests that they were probably taken out of British military RADAR equipment from the 1950s.

There aren’t many detailed photographs of the Cylinders on blasters for us to study. Fortunately the same electronic components were also used on the MSE droid, Luke’s landspeeder and the Y-Wing targeting computer. Studying good photographs of these props provides us with enough information to recreate the E11 Power Cylinders very accurately."

There are 2 versions I chose to be made for my Sterling E-11 (though there are all 5 versions available):

- shape A - "Leia's Escort" used by the Stormtroopers escorting Leia on Tantive 4, this one is more weathered, and comes with a cool straggly wire
- shape B - "Detention Block" from one of Han’s E-11 blasters in the Detention Block corridor

Had to post this pic here, so cool to remember how SW was back then with all the props, real armor and of course studio scales, and no CGI:

Yea, I'm happy that the new movies will also be a combination of practical effects and CGI. Star Wars is about stuff that can be touched and felt.

there is big hope it will come back for the new movies :)

Thanks for posting jkno. It's one of the best SW pictures ever. Even the alternate crew pictures are great!

Real physical props and studio scales which can be held in your hands will always feel more real even on screen. The human eye still most of the times recognizes and makes a difference where CGI or real props/sets are involved. And to have/own a replica of what was seen on screen is the best way of having a part of the movie in your house. Nothing beats that feeling.

I'm afraid the art of physical model making is pretty much dead. Everything is CGI on green screen nowadays.

That would be nice. But as I said elsewhere, to be honest I don't really care about the new Star Wars movies. I have my beloved Original Trilogy (still messed up enough by uncle George now) so no big need here for the new SW Sequels. I'll watch them all, and that is it for me. ;)

Hehe, I love them all. I grew up with the prequels (I'm a young bloke!) and they brings a lot of nostalgia to my mind. That's what I love about Star Wars. It's a bridge to ones childhood. Both for young and old people, today. I'm happy that other young folk will now have the chance to create their own nostalgia around Star Wars.

That is what makes Star Wars unique. There are many franchises out there, but not many that create this type of nostalgia around them.

I watch the Prequels from time to time, but for me they lack the magic of the Original Trilogy. I don't have any real deep connection with them, I watch PT like I watch any other movie, I enjoy a few of their aspects, but with OT there is something completely different. When I watch OT I dedicate my entire time to doing just that. There are some cool characters in PT like Palpatine, Maul etc., but not sure if they will ever become even half as iconic as the OT characters. As a good friend said you can have the OT without PT, but not viceversa.

But this is not that much about OT vs PT or ST, as it is about props. From OT almost everything was tangible, you can hold a blaster and a helmet in hands, see the X-Wing, the TIE Fighter, the Falcon etc. and know they were real models and props - and some of us own these, and they are simply AWESOME, beating any other statue, figure or bust out there, because they are the closest thing to the screen used prop. In the end you can feel the great used universe of SW through these props and models, and of course through the replicas made by various licensed companies out there, or by talented artists.

But in the end there is a world big enough for all kinds of fans and preferences though. :)
