I wonder if you will be able to store the discs in his noggin. All the descriptions for the product says it comes with "Ape head packaging". It would be cool if you store the discs that way. Maybe it is just a stand alone bust like the Lord of the Rings and Matrix sets.

Any thoughts?

And I posted this months ago...

Nothing wrong with a friendly reminder of this upcoming purchase, is there?

Don't worry! We have had a lot of people joining the board in the last few weeks, so there are a lot of folks out there who missed some of the previous discussions and have a lot of catching up to do!

I ordered mine off of Amazon. They state that they will have edition numbers 1 - 100. If you are wanting a low number, I guess that would be the place to go. I don't care about the number as much as I do the Ape head.:monkey5 Wish sideshow would release some new Apes with this upcoming event but since it isn't Star Wars or LOTR I guess we are out of luck:monkey2

Each Planet of the Apes - The Ultimate DVD Edition is stamped with a limited edition number, 1-10,000. Numbers 1-100 have been stocked by Amazon.com and will be shipped randomly to customers who order this item. Please note we can't guarantee you will receive one of the lower numbers in this series.

Pretty cool! Good luck getting one of the low numbers!

Interesting... I ordered this from Amazon and didn't even see the part about the 1-100 numbers! They will be randomly distributed, so you have a 1 in 100 chance of getting a number between 1 and 100! Now that is just plain weird! :monkey1

WoW. Another POA set? Other than the bust what are the differences between this "ultimate" collection and the set I bought a year ot two ago?

I haven't raelly kept up on every Apes set that has been made available before. I have the 5 movie collection. But I hadn't seen a collection that had all the original movies, the complete live actionTV series and the complete animated series as well as all the extras for the PotA original and remake in one box. I thought the animated series was on DVD for the first time in this set. Maybe I'm wrong? Anyhoo, I'm glad this was posted. I just placed it on pre-order at Amazon. Good deal for everything.

According to what I've read, this Ape Head box set is the first time that the following are available:

1) The Return of POTA cartoon series

2) The original TV Spots for the TV Series

3) The longer cut of Battle for the POTA

And it is the first time that all of the movies and TV series (as well as the Tim Burton re-make) was packaged in one set. The films have also been re-re-mastered with AC-3 sound.

All of the rest of the extras have been available prior, in one form or another, to this release.

Also on the very same day, there will be another smaller box set (sans Ape head) called the "Legacy" set (not to be confused with the "Evolution" set released a few years back) that will contain only the 5 theatrical films which will include the longer Battle as well.

If you are looking to order, make sure that you get the right set.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget the main reason I am buying this set: This is the first time that four of the five original films have been presented in 16x9 for those of us with widescreen television sets! That alone warrants the purchase of at least the new $35 boxed set through Amazon.

Interestingly enough, some of the individual titles have begun showing up on store shelves (Target, for example), even though they are not due for release until the 28th.

It is stored in the back on the bust...There is a flap that opens back...and the DVD box is stored in what would be his chest/shoulder area.

Agreed. For those of us with widescreen sets, anamorphic widescreen is an absolute necessity. I don't have the original Apes box (just have the 2 disc anniversary of the original- not interested in the sequels), but the extra 33% resolution is definitely worth an upgrade for those who do have it. I'm sure the transfer will be cleaned up as well, and hopefully Fox made a new HD master.

Well you will be disappointed to know Elwood, that the Original Planet of the Apes movie discs included in this set are identical, to the 35th anninversary release..(Assuming that is the set you already have...) Because the Original already had an anamorphic widescreen transfer, and DTS, DD5.1 sound. The sequels, were previously the only ones without anamorphic transfers, and DD5.1 sound..That has been rectified with this set...But, as you stated, you aren't interested in them..So,unless you are buying for the bust or the TV/cartoon series, it would be pretty pointless for you.

Hey all
I just saw that the POTA set with the Ape head has just went up in price on Amazon. It was $125 something now it is $130 something!
