cancelled mine.. will get a raw mask on ebay and paint myself. I dont care about sideshows logo on my piece and an edition number. All worthless when pieces look like complete ****.

Here you go, this area is a complete mess on mine, but it should help you locate the hole. It sits central with the groove, very very slightly forward of the top one on mine.

Don't, it's going back soon, very disappointed though. The wait for a decent P1 and P2 hero goes on....

You and Rad0324 made the right choice cancelling this though unfortunately. If I ever find the HCG one at a sensible price I'll grab it myself.

Thanks a lot for the pics! :yess:

Whooah! Your's looks pretty messed up too!..
you got all three holes though, guess you were 'lucky'.. :wink1:

Interesting that those deep grooves inside the cavity and weird ridges along the edge of the mask matches those on mine..
At first I thought it was just a casting error on mine alone, but I guess it's a problem with the mold..

Looks like I'll have to wait until Monday at the earliest to see what this looks like in hand.. Until then I'll be living vicariously through all y'all... :duff

Just wanted to show the current status of my repaint (and repairing) of the mask..

I've been filling and sanding bad areas like the heavy ridges on the underside of the rim on both
sides of the mask, removed paint drops, and covered the blast marks and the small spots..

This is how it looked after I painted a layer of silver over the original weathering:

And here's the detail on the left side of the mask:
I drilled out the missing hole and sculpted the small ring inside it. I also resculpted the ring in the top hole, which wasn't cast very well.

The mask is now ready for a new weathering and repainting of the blast marks.. I'll have to gather all of my reference pics to get it as accurate as possible..

All of this shouldn't be necessary on an expensive piece like this, as some of you guys mention - but I actually like fixing stuff like this and making it my own.
I could have asked for a replacement, but a lot of these issues seem to be consistent on every mask, so I would probably just have gotten another bad mask or maybe one even worse, which I wouldn't be able to fix..

One of the biggest reasons for not returning it for a refund, and just buy one elsewhere.. is that this mask was sculpted by the original Stan Winston Studios sculptor Matt Rose - I think it's interesting to see his take on the same mask 28 years later. Just too bad that the production pieces don't do his work justice. :(

I can live with the wobbling on the stand, but not with the look this mask had out of the box.. Hope I'm able to achieve a better look with this repaint.

I probably shouldn't comment on something I didn't buy. So, I'll just say, I'm glad I didn't buy.

Thanks!

Well, I emailed Sideshow about the issues three days ago, and still haven't heard back from them..

I haven't heard back in the last couple of days either, I've refused a credit and asked for a refund. I like modding myself, but this one is beyond what I'm willing to do given the initial cost personally.

Looks a bit crooked. Seems like the mouth area is off center, and does not lined up with the eyes?
Could be just the angle of this shot....
