"Please know these masks are cast from the original props used in the films to maintain accuracy.

Did they actually tell you that? It is extremely incorrect if so.

Also, mine doesn't even connect to its stand and I was told to use Museum putty to fix it also and offered a $50 credit. :rolleyes2

Yep! Still can't believe they tried to tell me it was cast from a film used mask.

A flat out lie.

I'm really curious to see what their response will be, after I called them on it in my response to them.

Lying and giving false information is not good customer service.

This was my first purchase with them, talk about starting off of the wrong foot.. :(

so i received my replacement and this one has even more of the white spots and it also has some hairline cracks, is this normal or should it be VERY smooth all around?

Soooo... out of curiosity, for those who purchased this mask and contacted Sideshow about the dissatisfaction with it...

Particularly the rough spot near the hose ports, how did they address that concern with you? If you don't mind sharing.

I'm curious.

I actually haven't even heard from them yet.. which I sent an email through the website on the 12th. Which means I'll probably have to call them tomorrow or something.

I just sent in my request for a replacement... If I can get one that actually stays on the stand I'll keep it...
Hopefully they manage to provide you one that looks and displays better.
You own the Predator 2 mask that just started shipping before the P1, right? Was that one's display stand actually made out of polystone? Curious..

Yep.. The P2's base is solid like all the other ones up until this guy..... I have no clue why they decided to go with this plasticky base here... (I mean I do, but it doesn't make sense from a collector stand point)

Interesting, and aggravating.

These two masks were released so close together and seem to have the same people involved in their production according the the artist credits on the description pages.

I don't get how this mask ended up being such poor quality all around including the different material of the stand, and yet they have the nerve to try and charge the same price? :dunno

It would be easier to undestand if it had been a long time between masks and maybe the quality slipped in between, that maybe they wanted to try something new and cut production costs.. but these masks were released so close together that they had to be in production at the same time.

Why The quality was not consistent, I cannot understand. :gah:

Well.. Neither one of them are perfect from a movie standpoint and I'm not one personally to dig into minute details that are off.. I leave that to the hot toys collectors...

The base however, was a major change in manufacturing styles.. I assume it was to save weight. Hopefully it's the last one they make that way... As it does give it a very cheap feeling....

Hmm.. Ironically, out of the two product pages the P1 is the only description that mentions "heavy-weight materials" being used in the production. Isn't that nice? :slap

More than likely different factories. Some do a better job than others.
Looks like SS are going with the cheapest, rather than best, options.

Just playing around, the lens is harder to remove than I expected as the molding isn't very uniform and it's hard to tell where to cut. The actual mask is cast as one piece with a large gap where the lens is meant to be, the lens its self is the piece of black mesh glued onto the mask, and then a large slab of silver painted resin inserted on top. It would be soooo easy at this stage of production to simply insert a piece of reflective black, or very dark silver plastic. After the fact though it is a nightmare to try and fix. The area around the lens simply falls apart as it is 1mm thick and very brittle. The mask has snapped in half at a weak point to the side of the left eye, I was as gentle as I could have been. So all in all, I wouldn't recommend trying this ;)

No cast should be that thin. Yesh. That's equal to some of the really bad casts I've seen floating around on ebay. What a rip.

Oh man...the Material is really thin.

Did somebody know what this mask is?I´ve found this pic years ago:
