Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

(*edit *) - we've just been told to stop mentioning Narin on Statue forum - lol - although one of their design team (igo) was nice enough to admit that Narin refuses to work with Sideshow (wasn't news to me) *)

.
LOL!
"Narin refuses to work with Sideshow"... because he's smart. :lol

I think many people would be happy if it happened actually, while we may be willing to build and paint kits, a lot of people aren't, probably the majority in fact. If SS could get to grips with some of the dodgy QC issues and paint apps currently coming out of China that would be quite a partnership.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Narin is the nicest, kindest, most talented and most humble person I have met in the entire collectibles community. I am proud to call him one of my dearest friends. Totally unique and I thank Lemmy that he's there to feed our Predator (and other) addictions.

He does NOT need to risk exposing himself to the sort of possible aggravation from their development/design division that WE experience from their Production, QC and Customer Service staff.

I TRULY would not wish that on him.

Can't believe I missed this production blog sideshow posted back at the beginning of November. The head looks massive in the that person's hands! Regardless of small inaccuracies this should be one hell of an impressive piece size-wise! :yess:

Remove the atmospheric music and replace it with the chicken dance "birdie song" and you get a totally different impression :banana

Indeed.
Also, Sideshow would be cutting into his sales.
I'm sure he's content with the way he's operating now. I'm certain he would have partnered with Sideshow a long time ago if he thought it would be beneficial.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Plenty of GK sculptors mix and match - they create sculpts for themselves or GK producers to sell, but also do work for bigger companies like Sideshow.

Same goes for painters - some do GK buildups for private comission, but also work for the bigger companies to create the paint masters and prototypes.

But that "combining" is not for everyone as personal circumstances and work-habits vary.

Other than (perhaps) a VERY rare exception, I never want Narin to change the way he does things - my bank manager might - but I don't.

That head deffo has no holes for quills to be attached :slap

The absence of quills bothers me more than the size of the spear and is second to only the bent dreads. It's a part of the Predator anatomy, always has been, on every predator ever.... Laziness. Pure Laziness.

You cancelling now you scored a Wolf?

You cancelling now you scored a Wolf?

Honestly, I know I give this statue grief but it's with good intentions. I only want it to be the best it can (and should) have been.

I made an executive decision to cut my lines and Predator was top of the list (to stay). So no I'll be keeping him, unless it turns out like a badly painted NECA, which is entirely possible. I still think it will look very good, just not very accurate. I think I can forgive accuracy if it's really amazing.

There's a difference because whilst Wolf is clearly bad *** in every way but a few minor niggles, City Hunter is good with some bigger niggles. I really have to see this guy in my hands.

With the EX ordered though it's a little bit of peace of mind since I'm bound to at least get what I paid for it, in the event it's a stinker.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

The few glaring, albeit major, issues with this piece are really keeping it from being among the best.

Ask yourself if a really stellar paint app can save this piece because, from what we've been told from a reputable source, the way you see it sculpted in the proto is what the production piece will look like.

If my WL was to convert this month or next, I really don't know if I would move forward on it. I'm just not convinced that I could sell it and get back what I spent. :(

The low ES might be it's one saving grace... and that low ES wasn't chosen by accident. Sideshow knows what they've got here.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

You should be safe getting your money back on the Ex...should!

Turns out like the LSB and no chance, I've seen those sell for great prices. Great for the buyer.

Still very happy to sit and wait for in hand pictures, nice position to be in.

Honestly , I'm HOPING it comes out like that. I've been here before, where you thought things couldn't get worse...

It will be, you only have to look back at older Predator threads to see. You can find quote's like " Wolf is not accurate, easy pass" or " The P1 Maquette , I don't like the pose" Next minute they are all sold out and people are scrambling. You see it time and time again. The Wolf Predator thread in particular was funny, everyone was like "Ahh sideshow, you won't fool us with the low edition warning, this will be around for years!" ......next minute....

Although I do think 1000 is quite high for the Reg (700 would have been better to make the total 1000) , I think this will still sell out and the EX will become that little bit more special.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them knock these back to about 700 for the reg, I can't see 1000 selling at that price. I hope they do actually. And I realise I'm trying to be completely positive about this now I've invested in it.... but there is no way on this Earth our production pieces will have paint apps anywhere close to the quality of Mr Dunways job on the prototype. The P2 has an incredibly intricate paint app, they couldn't even get close on a 1:2 scale bust, man that was bad. I just hope this and any future 1:4 predators get the best possible treatment available to SS production wise, they can do a damn good job when they really try.
