Just cause it's clear does not mean it's water:lol

Even the new P1 looks ok "on display", but up close fails miserably. Most of these do look good up on the wall, even the much bemoaned Scar. Those HCG repaints do look amazing though, kinda makes mine look sad now.

You might have guessed already that I'm not looking for "perfection" from these pieces... I'll let some poo slide through the drain cause I try an be a realist.. Sometimes there are things that bug me personally.. Eg. The plasticky base on the new P1 bio.. Uggh!! But an example of something that's F'd up there is that the magnetic attachment doesn't even work! Now how the heck am I supposed to even display it? I can't, so it's basically not worth it.. Fix that and I might keep it... :duff

NOBODY that buys SS looks for perfection past their 1st piece:lol Yea, I don't care mind the plastic base as much as the other problems. I don't like that they did it, and SS should be ashamed cheaping out like that after raising the price $50 from the preview, but that alone would not make me return it(which I am doing with mine).

This is looking much better with the brass/gold showing through more. Do you have any new pics of the mask after the touch up? I'm tempted to get one of these for my collection and would most likely redo the paint as well. Curious how it's looking.

Thanks! :)

Well, I was going to finish my touch up on the mask before the holidays, but I spent quite some time on repainting the P1 mask+stand and wasn't able to finish both projects before having to leave.
I did get to do some more highlighting and repainting of the stand on the P2 mask, but then, when watching parts of Predator 2 on Blu-Ray I noticed a tiny detail that I wanted to modify on it before doing the weathering.

So I can't show the finished version just yet.. But I can show you how it looks atm.

To make the tri-laser area a bit more accurate, I felt I needed to trim some of the rings inside it, to match what's seen on the original Hero:
As you can see they kind of fade out at the bottom and form a flat surface.

I began cutting off the unwanted lower parts of the rings with an exacto knife, I then went over the area with sandpaper to even it out.

After a bit of finer grade sandpaper and some primer, I painted it with the same brass-paint as the rest of the mask.
Here's how it looks now:

I think it looks better than before, and I'm much happier with it's overall look now. Now it just needs that weathering. I might add some putty and resculpt the fourth bump though, as it's more prominent on the movie mask, will have to decide on that when I'm back home again.

The base needs some weathering too, including re-applying the corroded areas.

Hope to have some more updates very soon.

I really recommend picking this mask up - I think it looks awesome + the cutting-disc stand is really cool, aaand it's made of polystone and has a nice weight to it, compared to the light P1 plastic one. The sculpt may not be the most accurate one, and the rough hammered texture is a bit overdone compared to the screen-used mask, but overall it's a very cool version of the P2 mask, and it looks very nice when displayed next to the (repainted) P1 mask.

Awesome work! Looking great, can't wait to see more progress. :duff

I think I will be getting one of these as soon as my reward points kick in from my last few items. Figure it would look great taking the place of my ED-209 in the collection (have to find a new place for him). I am very happy with my P1 mask after touching up the weathering a bit more over the weekend. :yess:

SS got this area all wrong, but that's a dark picture you're working from, this may give another perspective to aid you further. I wish there were more pictures of that Hero bio.

Thanks a lot!.. I also had this photo to work from (this is a bad shot of the paused Blu-Ray, taken with my mobile phone.)

It didn't show the rings inside very well, but more of how the bottom should look like.
Your photo does show the area a bit clearer, and it's obvious that the rings end a bit closer to the edge and don't just fade into the flat area.

It's an easy fix, and I'll get right on it in a couple of days. :)

Yeah, I'm sure that spot will be perfect for the P2 mask.
Hope ED-209 will get another great spot in your awesome showroom.
Otherwise, just ship him over to me, and I'll take good care of him, heh.

What did u use to elevate your detolfs?
I used a black storage cube that Target used to sell called the Itso cube. Unfortunately looks like they discontinued them. They were $9.99 each. I would just place it with the open side face down and the were super sturdy and almost perfect size to look like part of the display case. Some Targets still have them in stock on clearance so you might still find them out there.

...and yeah, I almost sold my ED-209 earlier this year. I've only really collected life sized props. He was my first Hot Toys figure. Happy I hung onto him after all. I apparently got lucky and got one without the rubber issues. Had him since he was released and to this day, not a single hint of cracking. Unfortunately for my wallet, I'm now getting hooked on Hot Toys, just got the Elder Predator. Love it. :yess:

Been doing that too for the last couple of years, focusing on collecting life sized props that is,
and not so much statues and figures. Used to have a lot from all of my favorite movies,
but it was getting a bit extreme. :wink1: Sold most of my figures and merchandise, and only
kept a few statues and such.

That version 2.0 of ED-209 is extremely cool though, almost picked it up myself..

But, if I begin collecting scaled stuff again, I know I'll end up with a house full of stuff again.
There's just soo many awesome statues and cool collectibles out there. :)

Yep, it's tough to resist. Of course having ED-209 means I will have to cave in and get Robocop soon. :slap

By the way, in my scouring the net for images of these original masks for reference I came across a few images of what is supposedly one of the original hero masks from Predator 2. Might come in handy for reworking the Sideshow piece if you haven't seen these before.
Wish they were higher resolution, but at least they are well lit.

I don't know what it is about this creature design but it's completely bad arse!!!
Completely agree! Stan Winston and Crash McCreey's design for the City Hunter is just awesome. What they came up with is just amazing.

If only these companies making these replicas could come close to giving us a piece like those images above... Instant buy for sure. :google

The P2 bio on those pics was the one made by dragon studios for the batman dead end film and was sold at auction as "Screen used for the P2 film" but alas it was not. just as the elder suit sold at auction was labeled "screen used" when it had some fan made pieces. :(

Ah, that's ashamed. Thought we had a nice clean look at the film used mask there.

Well, they did an amazing job on that. Looks more screen accurate than just about any replica I've seen out there.

In fact the Predator suits used for that Dead End short look better than anything that showed up in AvP or the other new movies in my opinion. Hmm...

nice going ADI... :slap
