I assume Hot Toys are made in China too. Look at those paint apps. Fantastic.

Great point! Sideshow has no excuses!!!

Its not nearly the same thing.

First off its smaller so slight issues are not as noticeable. Secondly HT casts a lot of their heads in a skin like resin which makes them look good with minimal paint. And lastly id say even HT does not put in as many layers of shading that SSC does on some things , they simply are not as complexly painted.

Dont get me wrong i love my HT figures but if you blew one up to halfscale you would not feel the same about it .

Disagree...

Show me ONE Hot Toys figure painted with f&$(&d up eyes that don't line up. That's not a matter of shading/ layers etc. It's straight up crappy workmanship and careless painters.

Bottom line is that Sideshow hires crap to paint up incredible sculpts.

What ever happened to the painters that worked on pieces like the Alien Warrior and Predator 1:1 busts? Those were masterpieces!!!

Even someone half as competent would suffice!

The more I look at the paint job on this LSB, the more I feel SS is just giving a big F U to their customers!

they're old and some of them probably died already (RIP) :peace

I can't get over how **** this is...
Sure the proto had plenty wrong with it if you know Predator 2 enough but this is SO ****ING BAD compared to what the proto is. I don't know why SS decided that anything not 1:4 or 1:1 was not worth the effort but the 1:5 and lsb line is a cluster**** of piss poor.

The fact that you can do super close ups shots of 1/6th scale figures and it still looks great proves that they would destroy at 1/2 if you ask me. Plus, they make Predators too and those look amazing. No clear resin going on...just clean, well done paint apps.

Looks like ****. Not surprised coming from Sideshow.

It's sad when NECA's $15, 8-inch P2's paint app rivals that of SS's $400, 1/2 scale bust.

Guys, don't waste your money on this unless you can really afford to. There are tons of better collectibles out there.

The prototype for this was absolutely fantastic. Such a shame.

I see why SS Did not post any in hand pictures on Facebook when they got this in,,At least I did not see any,,Going to be a very busy week for the returns department I guess,,It is really a shame..:thud:

It really is a shame. Agreed. It's a very strong sculpt that fits perfectly with the first one. If the paints weren't a disaster, it would be a no brainer for me. I wasn't expecting it to have great paints or even good paints hehe. I was just hoping for acceptable paints and they couldn't even give me that. Bummer.

I'm starting to think they shouldnt even put up pics of the prototype. Just wait until they've got one from the factory to photo, so we all know to set our expectations appropriately. We already assume the proto is a lie, but we don't know to what degree until those first in hand pics come in.

Another thing - The ring colors on the products are reversed now. They mixed them up, copper and silver.

Their paint looks great for their scale no question. But it is not blended or layered as much because it does not need to be. If you put those paint apps on 1/2 scale the same way it would not look good was my point. They use a lot of inks and washes that would not come off the same way in a larger form.

If you blow anything up multiple times, it's not going to look as good as the size it was intended. I agree with that, but you're making an assumption that HT would use the same process to paint something in 1/2 scale. I don't know what HTs process is, but it works. I find it hard to believe that it can't be adapted and or tweaked to a larger size. I believe that a factory that can produce HT level of consistant quality at 1/6th could handle a larger scale just fine. I doubt we'll ever find out for sure, but I do believe that a higher level of paint app for SS is attainable. It might cost more, but considering the prices now, I think it would be worth it.

You are also making an assumption that they would pull off 1/2 scale better. I was merely saying that comparing 1/6 to 1/2 paint apps is not really fair as it can not be done the same way. I know how to paint, I have done model painting for many years and the same techniques and tricks do not always carry over as the thing you are painting gets larger.

I agree that the paint apps could be better but im sure it would be more expensive. For assembly line paint its not the worst in the world. The initial proto had the same things wrong with it it just the colors looked different and the blending was done a bit better. I want to see the colors in hand before i judge it too much.

If we want proto quality paint i could see prices being quite a lot higher, look at how much it costs to get a Joe Dunaway commission.
