There were definitely some moments where she's a little too proficient, but I think ultimately its a minor nitpick in what is a pretty solid film. I think it maybe still ranks a bit behind "Predators" for me, but its close. I liked it enough that im intrigued to check out the commanche dub at some point.

I forget what the correct technical term is, but the only English subtitles I could find for the Commanche dub had the full DESCRIPTIVE text - so you got "wind rustling", "dog barking" etc etc. as well as the dialogue.

They'll sort it out at some point - but I'm waiting until they do.

They are a bit off (if you look at the lips). I watched the Comanche version. The main issue of the subtitles is that it is descriptive, so sort of tells you what is about to happen. If you've watched the English version and know what to expect then it wouldn't be much if an issue IMO.

I didn't realise there was a comanche dub version, I was thinking through the whole film that it would be cool if the tribe spoke in their native language only (why would they speak English?), and then maybe the second time round, watch with subtitles to fully understand what they are saying, their jokes etc

It was a good film IMO, I didn't think the CGI was bad at all, and the predator looked suitably tribal (which also doesn't make sense with his technology, but hey)

The effects in the movie were absolutely fine. It blows my mind that people constantly moan about VFX in this day and age, any movie trailer that gets released has somebody commenting "The CGI looks crap" within seconds.

VFX do not a movie make, and personally I'd have anyone that moans watch Starcrash on a loop for 24 hours

Yep, it was annoying. Had to turn it off.

I'm not denying there is a "woke" problem with Hollywood and other forms of entertainment, I hate virtue signaling and bending down to small but vocal groups because of it but I also equally hate the people, mostly guys, that think anything that doesn't align with their own views in life is woke.

A lot of people are saying this movie has a female protagonist that beats the predator because it's pushing a "woke agenda" and it's honestly pathetic, tons of them won't even give the movie a chance because some dude on youtube told them "women bad" because the're miserable human beings that ironically enough have been brainwahsed into following an ideology just like the people they criticize folow one as well, the politically derived discourse sorrounding entertainment has become incredibly tiresome from both sides.

Anyway the movie was great and I just want to see more Predator stories in other time periods or a sequel with Naru, I hope the director and creative minds behind Prey can keep it up and even improve in future installments, there's tons of potential in that "Predator in feudal Japan" idea I've seen thrown around, as long as they give us an enjoyable story with a hunter vs hunter theme I don't care if the lead is a woman, man, or whatever, just give us some more Predator goodness.

I see what you’re saying but I think that the criticism towards Prey‘s protagonist goes beyond the “it’s woke“ argument. I think it’s perfectly valid to criticise how she‘s portrayed in the film. I personally just don’t think she’s written all that well or interestingly or believably for that matter.

Also, she manages to walk up and shoot the predator point-blank in the back of the head because he was just standing there, disregarding her as a threat, even though he can clearly see she’s holding a gun. So even the portrayal of the predator itself is bad (aside from its design). He comes across as clownish and inept during his fight with her to be completely honest.

Saw this last night and enjoyed it. It's a very well made movie, the action is good, the cinematography is great, the acting is perfectly serviceable, the story has a good pace to it... so yeah, right up there with Predators IMO.

I particularly liked the action sequences, how a lot of it was hand-to-hand combat and how it also emphasised the predator's physical prowess while showing both the Comanche and the French as (somewhat) capable opponents. The Comanche put up a fight in hand-to-hand and stalking, and the trap the French set up was actually effective, so that made it interesting.

I'm not a fan of the design of the new predator, but I'm willing to accept it as a different "tribe". Also explains why it moves so different and the different weapons it has.

As for the "wokeness" of it, it wasn't usual that a woman would take part in hunting, but as far as I know, it wasn't unheard of, and the story flows quite naturally. Besides, she's never shown to have any "super" abilities, as she gets regularly beaten up by men. She beats the predator because (as her brother points out) she sees what others don't.

There's a few moments when suspension of disbelief is required, but nothing that really detracts from the story. I think this was a really solid movie. Not sure I would need a direct sequel, but it would be interesting to know how the pistol ended up in the Elder Predator's pssession.

The predator kills a Grizzly bear, then lifts the 600lbs beast over his head, rips him apart and showers in his blood! Such a badass.
And then, even more amazing - A 90lbs girl starts trowing the predator around.

At no point in the movie does she throw the Predator around. They very clearly show that she's outmatched in terms of strength; multiple times. Even with one arm he ragdolls her like a puppy.

Did you watch the movie..? She learns that the Predator can't see the French guy after giving him the orange herb, so she takes the orange herb in order to sneak up on him.

The Predator can only detect body heat. She took those orange flowers to bring her body temperature down and make herself "invisible" to it. That's why she was able to sneak on it.

I do think that that bit was a little clunky though. I mean the guy was playing dead, how did she know that the Predator ignored him because of not seeing his body heat?

Playing dead sometimes works against grizzly bears, that doesn't mean that if I see someone take some Ibuprofen and then successfully play dead with a grizzly I'm going to go "sweet Ibuprofen makes you invisible to bears!" and then run right up to it shoot it at point blank range, lol.

He wasn't playing dead that well. You can see him breathing and trying not to blink, but he's obviously very much still alive to someone with normal vision .

Oh silly me, that explains it then. flowers really do lower your body temp and make you invisible on thermal optics, which a native in the 1700’s would totally understand…
